I have an ancient Digitech multiFX pedal that has MIDI In, Out and thru. I don't really use it that much but I was wondering: is it possible to use the pedal as a MIDI controller? You know like certain MIDI keypads, joysticks, or keyboards for example, to operate functions certain MIDI compatible programs(eg: Cubase) using the MIDI port on my computer? Or am I getting this whole MIDI thing wrong?

Yep, should be able to do that Most likely, you'll have the option to send a MIDI control/program change when you switch patches.

Haha I thought I was making it up, awesome so it works! But what plug do I need to use? The Out or the thru? And does the fx pedal need to be on when using it as a MIDI controller, or will it function fine like a passive device such as a keyboard or joystick?

I want to use this for engaging the record and stop/pause functions in Cubase or other multitrack recorders, as well as engaging VST effects in Cubase while recording essentially like if they were part of my guitar rig, much like those infra-red remote controllers for PC's you can buy and map its buttons to for that purpose. Would this work for that? Can I map the buttons(Ie: effects, preset switches) on it to work as these controls?

I'm gonna need one of those converters from the rectangular MIDI ports for the circular ones... as well as a MIDI cable.
