Word of advice.

If you want to have better vocals, dont stop practicing. If you do (stop) then you will get sick like you did when you first started and have a nasty cough. I know from experience, i couldnt stop coughing last night and i couldnt sleep. Once my throat is healed i am going to start practicing again.

he's saying that when you practice, it is tearing your throat and every night it heals a litttle bit and if you don't practice one night, something bad will happen to it, it's like a rubber band, if you keep stretching it, it will be longer in the end
if you stretch it and let it retract it will always be the same length. understand?

This doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

You're telling me that if I'm practicing my vocals and then I stop that it will be bad for me.

Listen, I try to sing/growl/bark/bite every two days and go nuts on the weekend with my band. I use my days off to do nothing with my throat since I will be abusing it the day after.

I have never had a coughing fit as you described. I have had tickles in my throat when I first started. Those are gone now. I built up my vox slowly over time. Some days are better than others. I've been doing this for about 4 months.

Now, to correct some things. When you work out your muscles, the muscle does tear. the reason we take days off is for the muscle to repair itself. If you keep working out without proper rest, the muscles will not repair and you will have an even less effective workout.

the elastic band, there is something called the 'elastic/plastic limit'. If you keep stretching an elastic within its plastic limit, it will never become longer.

If you stretch an elastic past the plastic limit and let it retract, it will be permanently deformed (and permanently longer) and will never go back to its original shape.

I should go on jeopardy.
