Advice for a new setup

My mate asked me to post asking what the best possible guitar and amp he could get for the amount of money he has.

hes got a total budget of about £1000 so im guessing like just under 2000 USD.
hes into death metal, death, phagist, nile etc etc.

so what do you guys suggest? remember the money has to cover amp + guitar, also he will be gigging so i think he would prefer a head + cab as opossed to a combo, and as for a guitar anything general would do, ibanez, jackson or whatever.

also he wants to buy everything brand new as hes in a hurry!

cheers guys and thanks in advance.

Yea, if he doesn't need a clean channel, Laney GH100L, if he does, go for the VH100R instead... budget about £550-£580 for it... surely he wouldn't need a cab though, as most venues have one/some?

As for guitars, something like a Jackson DK2M(300 pounds?) The rest he could spend on an Engl Fireball or that Laney these fellows mentioned.

We could suggest the amps, but a guitar is so individually specific, that you shouldn't just say, "It can pretty much be whatever", he's probably just gonna have to try those out himself.

amps are usually a bigger investment so i suggest you get a very good amp, and a OK/good guitar, and then when youve practiced alot and are decent buy your self a Kelly KE2 or a Custom BCR
