http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpKV0UYbPNk
before the breakdown you hear it well
my rig: Esp F255 Crate Bt100 amp

Haha, I've seen this video before, it's great.
He isn't using any 'special' tuning to get that tone, he did tune his bass to drop D...but that doesn't make a difference in tone. As you can see clearly in the video, he is using 2 Ampeg cabinets, probably Ampeg heads too. Ampeg heads are 'tube' powered (or 'valve' as they would say in England) tubes can cause some distortion when the gain is turned up, causing your final output to have a crunchy/gritty/growly/burpy tone (whatever you want to call it) However...there are some effects that can emulate the tube "burp" effect without having to buy an expensive tube head or preamp. Tell me if you want any help finding these and I'll gladly list some.
~Cheers

It is a distortion effect, that much I know. I'm one of a billion guitar players in the world, but I know overdrive/distortion when I hear it. I'm sure other bass players here at metaltabs will be able to provide you more info how to zero in on your desired tone.
BTW, I love this video too. Anyone notice the Megadeth parody... "*remote to the head* Wenala, wenala, wenala, wenala, wenala, wenala, wenala, wenala, wenala, wenala, what do you think of that, Blawhahahahaa"

It is nice did you listen to some of the sound clips? I love some of the tones that come out of that beast
Here's the link to the MusiciansFriend page for it http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...r-DI?sku=480206
It would be around $250-$300 in Canada.

What about Jim Carey? Somebody mentioned to me once that he likes Cannibal Corpse, or is that just bullshit?

Sorry to dig this up but...
About 30 seconds in the song The Striker Strikes the bass plays by himself for like 2 seconds, but with a terrrrriffic tone. Anyone know which pedal or whatever could be responsible for a tone like this one?
