Metal Songs in Standard Tuning
So, I have been playing a lot of Metallica and Iron Maiden lately, but I was wondering what other standard tuning metal bands there were other than the following:
Megadeth
Judas Priest
Opeth
Metallica
Iron maiden
Black Sabbath
Ozzy Osbourne
Pantera
Anthrax

may i ask why it has to be standard tuning? you can play anything no matter what tuning you are (within exception ofcourse) i have a standard tuned guitar and i play loads of stuff thats in d and c, its just it sounds crappy when you play along to the cd thats all.

slayer never played in standard
but to get back on your question, a lot of old school thrash bands are in standard; forbidden, suicidal tendencies, exodus, sacred reich etc

Didn't they on Show no Mercy?
Oh, and Hammersmashedface: Marduk has ALWAYS played in E, with the exception of maybe 3 songs on a 7-string.

AC/DC- Most (if not all)
Atheist- first two definitely, I'm almost sure on the third
Bathory- Blood Fire Death (suffers from some pitch distortion, though)
Coroner- R.I.P., Punishment for Decadence, No More Color, probably the rest
Cynic
Dark Angel- We Have Arrived, Darkness Descends
Death Angel- all
Deep Purple- Machine Head (undoubtedly more)
Deicide- Legion, re-recorded tracks on Amon
Destruction- Infernal Overkill, Eternal Devastation, Mad Butcher
Dio- Holy Diver
Emperor- 1994-1999
Exodus- 1985-1991
Fates Warning- 1984-1988 (one song on The Spectre Within is Eb)
Helloween- Walls of Jericho, Keeper of the Seven Keys (both parts)
King Diamond- most, if not all
Led Zeppelin- all, with the exception of a handful of tracks
Mercyful Fate- all
Nasty Savage- 1984-1989
Necrophagia- Season of the Dead
Nuclear Assault- 1986-1989
Pestilence- Mallevs Malificarum, Testimony of the Ancients
Possessed- all
Rush- 1974-1982
Sepultura- 1986-1991
Slayer- Show No Mercy
Slayer (San Antonio)- all
Tankard- Chemical Invasion (probably more, but I should find more of their shit, the album I have RULES)
Tenacious D - all
Testament- 1987-1990
Thin Lizzy- Jailbreak, probably all
Vader- Ultimate Incantation
Violence- all
Watchtower- all
White Zombie- Make Them Die Slowly, La Sexorcisto
If there's anything wrong in there, let me know.

Not drop actually, despite some Immortal tabs stating the contrary. Just watch some Sons era live clips and you'll see how much more efficiently they're playing it in D standard, not drop D.
Oh yeah, the first Vader album! Go Rezendes.
Morbid Angel's "Abominations" and I *think* Thy Kingdome Come were in standard, all their other releases are in Eb or A# on the 7-strings(same shit, half step down)

Dimmu Borgir mainly plays in standard tuning. A good album to try playing is "Stormblast"(the original not the re-recording).

What's really wrong with the re-recording? I own it and my girlfriend owns the original. The re-recordig isn't bad or anything.
You should learn some emperor. It's almost all in standard with the exception of some of the last stuff they put out.

Um, yeah Slayer has been in C#. Not sure on the specifics because I'm not really into slayer. But I know that song Bloodlines is in C#. I prefer to say Db, though.

I may be wrong, but I could have sworn that Marduk's first album use C# tuning. Anyways, it's not a big deal. Most black metal bands use standard tuning. Examples include Mutiilation, Maniac Butcher, Von, Watain, Burzum, Vlad Tepes, Bekhira, Deathspell Omega etc.

Some Martyr is in open D as well, apparently, as Dan revealed in an interview with Metal Observer.
Spiral Architect is all in Eb, in an account of how they wrote the songs on A Sceptic's Universe on their forum, I think written by Asgeir.

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the re-recording. I own both as a matter of fact. Its just that i feel that the original is a little easier to play because they don't have as many of the melody parts developed as much as in the re-recording. Also it's a little slower than the re-recording. The re-recording was my first Dimmu cd but now that i got the original off eBay i actually prefer to listen to that over the re-recording for some odd reason...

ah, My favorite is still Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. That had the most ambience and atmosphere to it. Stormblast re-recording is a close second.

I reckoned he was detuned because of the tone of the album, he is using fatter strings, and I caught a note lower than a D somewhere on it too.
And Bob, note: - "...as Dan revealed in an interview with The Metal Oberser."

Yep, they went down a half step for the most recent album. I have the tab book so I can confirm it. Quite easy to hear the tuning change anyway, just listen to Felony for example, very obvious in that track.
Oh, and there are some slight mistakes in the tab book, believe it or not.

Tab books are usually worked out by session players hired by the publishing company, very rarely are they transcribed by the band's themselves, which is why you'll often find tabs simplified or just incorrect.
One of the few books that is by the band is the Necrophagist 'Epitaph' book I believe. They had all the songs in PowerTab anyway.

Yeah, I'm pretty damn sure that Martyr tabbed their own tab books. Maybe not a band like Metallica, but Martyr I reckon would.
