Hi there.

i seem to have most of my technique to a good enough level for me to improve just through playing loads but my tremolo picking seems to be quite bad, i can do triplets, quadlets and so on extremely tighly but its just when i have to tremolo pick something i just cant do it. i can do tremolo picking on a sigle string constantly and without hesitation/falter but there is a riff on multiple strings that is when my picking goes realy sloppy.

any ides/exercises that you think i could benefit from?

hmmmmm. there is no way to do it other than practice soooo
here's an idea

since it is a pretty boring thing to practice just plop yourself in front of the TV
and just practice it while you watch, you should build up speed pretty
easily enough.
Since triplets and stuff are just explosions of muscle tension (to me), they are bound to be a bit faster than your tremomolo picking right now.
Just get it down so that you can pick comfortably. It really won't be a challenge for you, probably a week to get it down pat, and then just keep building your speed all your life little by little

How can you say you have your picking extremely tight and all of that then ask about this? Make sure you're playing in time, and realise that things like scale runs etc you're still playining in time, just 8th,16ths etc relative to the tempo have string changes... So although they are still at the same tempo, you're now picking three or two notes per string, but still in the tempo

Practice some easy stuff like simple 8 tone scale runs at a comfortable speed, focusing on what your picking hand does. Chances are you're just not positioning the plectruk right, resulting in scurried and frantic picking


EDIT: The stuff about practicing with a TV etc is alright, but you'll find it's a strong time when you'll go onto 'auto pilot' or whatever... If you want to improve and change your technique, you'll probably need to spend 15 mins or so focusing on the actual and precise movements, but don't overdo the concentration

Get yourself a metronome. It has helped me out a lot with tremolo picking amongst other aspects of playing.
