Warmoth, rate it or hate it?
just been looking on the warmoth website, and was considoring getting one as my next guitar as i could have it exactly how i want and not have to but a ran or another custom. anyone had any experience in them?/owned one/played one?
i would probably buy a different neck, maybe a jackson or something. thinking of getting a soloist in trans green i havent decided what wood etc yet though.
thanks in advance

Personally I don't really see the point of custom guitars unless you want personalised inlays etc. It won't be any cheaper than buying an equivalent from jackson/ ibanez etc. Unless you want to be super-anal about neck width, shape and weird pickup combinations then I expect a main-stream brand would have a guitar that would be specced close enough for you, with the advantages of being able to play before you buy and get feedback on specific models.

cheers.

Yeah unless you are getting a really odd shape guitar then there is really no point in looking at any other company other than Jackson, B.C. Rich, Ran ect ect.
Personally if I wanted a custsom I'd want to get one from www.jonezguitarz.com
Just cause they look so awsome.

Yeah man thats totally understandable, but in some ways I am answering your question . Theres more advantages to a mainstream brand over Warmoth, especially if its only the paint which you are set on. I've read stuff about Warmoth and it kicks butt by all accounts. But if you already want a Jackson neck with a Soloist-type body and Jackson do a Huuuuge range of colours and custom shit then.............

That's the thing though...Until recently, Jackson has never mass produced a Randy V with 24 frets, let alone a neck-thru Randy with 24. I find it hilarious that the new Pro Series RR24 is only $1,200, while the RR1s are still about $2,000.

Quick question though man, how long have you been playing? Like, if there is one thing i hate is when people who have played less then two years spend over a grand on a guitar...
If you havent played that long, getting a new custom guitar is not going to make you play better.
Just throwing that out there.
But to answer your question, warmoth guitars arent really THAT special. It was a friend's though so I'm sure that if i bought one to my specifications would be better...but, his felt like a think ibanez neck. The strat shape was comfortable, but the price wasnt worth it imo

TIP: only go with warmoth if you're okay with bolt on joints. I personally hate them, so i'd NEVER get one.
If you know how to turn it into a decent set neck without dampening sound transfer with glue, then go for it, but otherwise i'd say fuck it. I'm addicted to neck-thru.
