What do you use, photoshop, handdrawn, something else?

you just select the file type when you are saving it as jpeg, that works for me

Apparently MS Paint is not the way to go in making logos.

Just use a different font and fuck with it.

Not as good as a real one, but far better than trying to do it freehand.

these are some sketches i did a few years ago, but if i was going to do a metal band logo..i would do something very similar. probably just make it look a bit more "dark and evil" i've never actually drawn anything for a band though. someone here had asked me about it a few months back..but my memory isn't the greatest at times and i am pretty sure i lost the piece of paper i wrote it down on amongst all the other lost pieces of paper with notes on them in my room. thats all by hand..pencil (sometimes), bic pen, and various markers. i'd draw the logo the same way, only if i wanted to be a real stickler for detail (and it was a symmetrical sketch) i would fold the paper and trace some of the key features of the overall outline and then unfold it and fill in the rest of the letters. i could do it by hand..and have with graffiti..but its a pain in the ass sometimes, and it definitely takes longer and is not as accurate.

Im not going to post logos Ive done before hand because I need to look through them all again anyway, and its not something I really enjoy doing any more.

I wrote a small guide on producing logos with professional media in mind, using the suffocation logo as an example;

To design a logo, you first need to figure out what you want it to be like. Get a concept in your head and some formal aspects (Sorry, but no one can teach you to be artistic) Then sketch away and just make sure it looks... good.

I stick to symmetry which is quite typical of extreme metal logos, in some form or another (most have symmetry in a subtle way, some have it blatantly, others, like Orchidectomy, have none.)

The material and media you use to make your logo is up to you; I always use a medium fineliner at a large scale and scan it in (then do the steps that I describe in that link.)
But thats not to say you should always stick to one media. I dare say, dripping, liquid ink, would make some good results for gory logos. BE CREATIVE!

And try to build up a huge reference of logos for yourself. I cut out any parts from magazines and promos that have band logos that are interesting, and keep em all, just as a reference library. The link in my sig, also, suggests that STUDYING existing logos is very helpful as well. I study logos indepth to the point that I recreate them, element by element, and it really helps build up your eye.

I used dafonts.com for a couple demos my old band released. I've tried hand drawn logos before too. I'd like to add dark images into the text like drawing a torso hanging from a noose and its intestines hanging out. You know, basic shit that makes people go: ewww!
