Head settings?
Is there a webpage that lists the settings guitarists use on their amps?

usually no, because people aren't usually so fucking lazy that they can't plug in their own tone.

Umm there is a site with an archive of popular bands' setups with pictures and everything, I forgot the link though. Don't expect to find death metal bands' setups on it though.

Uhhhh, okay asshole, did I state that I wanted to copy other peoples sound or that I'm too lazy to produce my own? No. I'm just curious as to what some musicians set their heads to. Maybe I feel like messin around with it in the privacy of my home.

I can get a decent sound. I just hate when I'm sitting at home playing along with something and my sound doesn't match what I'm playing with at all. Hence why I'd like to know if there's a site that tells me what settings certain players use.

sorry i said it like that... i had a very bad day, and shouldn't have taken it out on you. dick move on my part.
i wont shit you dude, you need a specific setup to get an identical sound to a given band. But honestly, the best way to figure out how to match tones is to experiment with yourself. Take me for example, when i started out, i had fuckall idea what i was doing, but now that i've fiddled with random shit all over the place, i can plug pretty much anything i want... hell, i can get a tone IDENTICAL to The Sword with my marshall MG (but only when my pickups are too high )
Biggest tip anybody has given me: mids are your friend, love the mids, kiss the mids softly, and make sweet love to them right before you fuck its brains out. Its safe to say i have the mids on my marshall stack dimed.

+1 on the mids, I'm always playing a balancing game between sounding tight and cutting through, luckily I don't play too much rhythm stuff with my band so I can have them pushed up.

+1 for the mids again, my hi gain eq is set like this:
Bass-10 Lo Mid-4 Hi Mid-6 Treb-4
mids help cut through the mix for lead work
on topic ... why don't you try a pod or something like that as a starting point for messing around? It's not going to be the real deal but it'd be a cheap way to try out a few diffrent sounds ...

A Pod is still kinda expensive just to play around with various sounds. Personally I'd get an EQ pedal to allow more scope for tone shaping.

yeah true, I was thinking along the lines a pod through a decent power amp would be a shit load cheaper than 2 or 3 heads ... have seen some pot pros going for $500 aud on ebay lately ... and they go for about $1500 aud at most places over here.
I've found my boss eq good, but you are only changing the sound of your amp with it, not getting a diffrent sound like you do with a modeling unit [pods v amps etc]
