Drums, vocals, bass I'm fine but for GUITARS ?!?

Hi I've done some research into home recording and I'm pretty happy with what I've come up with so far for recording vocals, drums and bass but I'm curious to how I can get a better guitar tone as it's pretty pants at the moment...

I want to get a sound that is really heavy for recording brutal metal tracks but has good tone and clarity on the notes that I hit not just fuzz...

Well I think this was quite stupid for me to post this thread since I think I've found that a Line 6 Pod will do the trick just fine...

I was going to suggest turning the gain down a little on the amp, then in mixing play around with compression and eq, but if a pod works for you then stick with it.
