Suffocation on Headbangers Ball
Ok, so I happen on this clip of the episode with Mike Smith, to which I had no idea existed. The conversation basically has Jasta asking Mike about how death metal should get bigger, and the mainstream not catching on blah blah, and Mike basically says they've gotten some bigger tours lately, and fans of other music were amazed at how brutal they were, and then Jasta says this: "So now we're going to go to our first video of the night, and it's Fireball Ministry with..."
What is this shit? I mean obviously Headbangers Ball is going to be fucking gay, but are they trying to be?
I'm all for death metal getting bigger, and it seems like this works to the contrary. Bunch of punks.

I'm not sure...I don't know the demographic that watches Headbanger's Ball. I'm surprised it's still around, I rarely hear anything about it.
Did you just say the people on Headbanger's Ball are punks?
I hope that's like... "Damn you little punks...get off my lawn!" and not like "punk music peepz ma homeslice"

HBB sucks.
They had a top 20 thing where the viewers chose what would be on there and Dir En fucking Grey was no. 1. You could tell Jamey Jasta did not like it.

Haha, I saw that. What a fiasco. That Powerman 5000 song had me thinking to myself "I've heard heavier Blink-182 songs", yet the piece of shit was like #3. And no Cannibal and no Deicide on the list.
Are there that many fags pretending to like metal?

Wow. Death metal doesn't get much play on mainstream music stations? I don't know if I believe that one.

Well definitely, his band is the epitome of gay music. But if you watch that episode, even he's disturbed by the results.

HBB sucks really, when I watched it they would rarely play 1 or 2 remotely metal-related videos, the rest was either nu metal or metalcore crap or simply hardcore. What the fuck. Might as well call it Two-Stepper's Ball, not Headbanger's Ball.
The reason they still play that crap is because they need to get high ratings, all the scene and mallcore kids scour to their TV's on saturdays and request more videos from crappy popular bands, MTV is just giving what the viewer wants. Their ratings would drop dramatically if they played death and thrash metal videos from obscure bands unfortunately.

Unless, people who like death/black/grind etc. bands were watching.

Maybe it's different in America, but I have sure as fuck NEVER ever heard death metal on the radio, and I watched MTV's headbangers ball twice. The first time I remember Fear Factory (who are crappy and aren't really death metal anyway), Death, and some other band played, the second time NOTHING, so I never watched the show again. You won't get death metal anywhere between 6am - 11pm, that's for sure. In Australia it's worse as there's barely any scene. That's probably a good thing though.

True, but it's not as if he (him and the show) don't bring it upon themselves. They play faggot music for faggots; they get faggot top 20's. It's that simple.

Umm... yeah, that's what I said, but since they're such a minority because it's not mainstream music, they'll never make any decent ratings playing black/death/grind. Such is life.

He must've thought: "Damn I didn't know our viewers were that fucking tasteless".
Btw who the fuck are Dir en grey? Never heard of them. So much for their mainstream exposure!

There's a show on the goddawful Music Choice Metal that actually plays really good shit. Last Rights, I guess it's called. It airs Monday and Thursday from 11-midnight EST. I think it should get it's own channel.

its called Last Rites. They played some pretty underground stuff like Burial and Souledge but most of it is basically some-what popular death, black, and grind core.

You know if you don't like what they are playing on Headbangers Ball you can actually do something about it. MTV is all about playng to fans, so if don't do shit about what you want to see and hear then blame yourself. Deathmetal isn't going to rule the air waves with a passive fan base.
Dir En Gray didn't make #1 because it rocked

Dir en grey won, because their fans raped the poll. Though it was the best band in top 5.
