Controlling soft synths and VSTs with a Guitar

Hi,
Is there any way of using a guitar to control VSTs? I'm starting a Darkwave/Industrial metal band and would like to use a guitar instead of a midi keyboard.

Thanks,

Yeah this would be awesome. Playing synths without having to buy a keyboard...

Boss Synth pickup? But you need a boss guitar synth for that, and I'm not sure it uses a MIDI signal.

I'm not sure exactly what you're talking about but I think I may have seen something like it.
Its pedal that plugs into a computer.
You need a special guitar that has a midi out. I've seen guitars like this before. I'v only SEEN guitars like this never played one or ask how they work. The only thing I know is that you can only play one note at a time.

But don't take my word for it.

you're going to need a midi pickup to turn the string vibrations into midi data, then a midi interface to read the data and change it into the sounds you want. I know roland make them these days...

I think that's all you would need, but I just woke up so don't quote me on it
