amp problems
so i started up my amp, everything fine... played for a good half hour, and sat down and turned off the volume on my guitar for about 4 minutes. When i turned the gitter back on, my amp sounded like somebody threw a blanked over the cabiet. I lost a fuckload of gain, almost all trebel definition, and it sounded like my tone knobs and volume knobs were all set to "1". So im thinkin, oh fuck oh fuck, whats wrong now... so i put it into standby, sat for a bit, turned off standby and it sounded normal again.
Anybody know what the cause of this problem is? Amp is a marshall 6100LM... My powertubes are new, so dont even think about telling me to replace them.

I don't know what preamps tubes you need but I'm guessing they're 12ax7's? In which case I'd say Electro-Harmonix 12ax7eh are v.good for metal. If you Google 'Watford Valves' their site has a load of reviews and comparisons between the various brands.

okay, so its the pre tubes, and theyre marshall stock pre tubes... in otherwords, they're already EHX, because they get the tubes from the same distributor and just relabel them 
so, back to the question... whats good for more gain, more low end, and less fizz... i'm looking for some tight punchyness.
Also, i have 7 slots to fill, 6 preamp (1 for clean, 2 for crunch, 4 for lead... it doesnt add up because crunch and lead share a tube) and 1 phase inverter... so tube combinations are an interesting possibility for me... seeing how 7 expensive tubes will hurt my wallet.

I'd suggest all JJ's, those will tame any fizz down. Perhaps some Tung Sols in the highest gain section too.
