MAPLE
I would just like to see people's opinions on maple bodied guitars and how they compare to the more traditional alder and mahagony bodies.

screamy, squealy, no low end, all high end, lacking in resonance, obesely overweight... only good for 80's Glam Rock.... mind you i've never tried one with heavier strings than 9's... im sure you could darken it with some heavy ass strings...
listen to a band called Poison, they make a great demonstration of what an all-maple guitar is like... with their pink bc riches... fuckin trannies
i MUCH prefer mahogany because it is FAR more resonant. I even prefer mahogany necks over maple because i find they resonate better, and therefore sustain better. Mahogany just makes for a louder sounding guitar when its played dry. Though with mahogany, i find its best to have an ebony fingerboard and maybe some ebony or maple stringers or skunk stripes in order to clear out some mud.
however, maple sounds pretty cool in a bass.

I've only played a few guitars with a maple body but what I've played I like the sound of. I have to say my fav combination so far is Mahagony with a Maple neck ... very sothing to my ears
But it's all about personal preference and can depend on the individual piece of wood...

I have an entirely maple guitar with an X2N and it sounds killer. Not to trebly or anything like that at all. Certain pickups that are high output would impose over the type of wood so the wood would not have a tremendous impact on you sound. Also, if you do end up finding your guitar too bassy or too trebly because of the wood, pickups or whatever, you could just use the bass, mid and treble knobs on your amp or an external EQ unit to change the frequencies to make it sound more well rounded.

How could you get Poison as the prime example of how a Maple guitar would sound? They're so rediculous that it wouldn't matter what guitar you gave them to use. You give 'em a LP custom and they'd still sound the same.
