EQ question
I would really like to mold my sound more to my liking and was thinking that maybe a good EQ would help me
which would be better a graphic EQ or a parametric EQ
and which models do you suggest for either... with a modest price range

Boss GE7 comes to my mind. Btw, I think I'll buy it in month or two. Good EQ pedal, really.

Graphic/passive EQ by far. Fuck parametric units, those should only be used for PA systems and shit.
Boss Ge-7 - The standard in EQ pedals, 80 bucks or so.
MXR 6-band - a bit cheaper, no 7th band or vol control, like 50 or 60$.
MXR 10-band - 2 outs, 10 band, volume, good shit, like 100 or 120$.
The Danelectro Fish n' Chips is a great inexpensive alternative, mine cost me 25$ and they're fine so long as you don't use them to boost the front of your amp with the volume too high, or they hiss. I do plan to upgrade at some point anyway but it's great if you're not sure if you want one/want to experiment with it or don't really tour, cuz this thing ain't super solid but I don't kick it so it's fine.
I can't speak for rack EQ's, as I don't have a rack and would rather have it in pedal form anyway. Hope this helps.

i have a GE-7 and i love it, especially because one of my guitars has passive EMGs and the GE-7 can make them sound a LOT better. you will defintiely need a noise suppressor also. i have a boss NS-2, and it works beautifully. try picking them both up used on eBay.. that's what i did. i probably got them both for about the price of one.
boss ought to think about putting them both into one unit because my GE-7 sat around useless until i discovered the NS-2 to cure it, now i can't live without them both. i don't know if any other EQs have the same problem, but boss makes good shit, so if theirs gets noisy on boosts, then most of them probably do as well.

graphics are pretty basic for tone shaping, but the levels kinda tend to bleed over... so when you move one, it will affect the others. Theyre definately the easiest to use, and are very easy to get a nice sound out of... its the EQ for dummies basically, but hey, its practical
Parametrics are very strict, each control is entirely its own entity, great if you're trying to do stricter frequency boosts... but you have to carefully tweak each control and it can get frusterating. I dont recommend it unless you know EXACTLY what you need.
