This is the first time i've done this but i'll "reveal" the meaning behind the song, as pryed by LBx. (over aim)
The song refers to a person who has attempted to commit suicide, and in doing so he ends up "passing out" thinking he has achieved death, when all of a sudden he wakes up the next morning. So i'll walk through each "Stanza" and give a brief description as to its meaning. (don't all you expecting me to do this from now on, some songs i write are way too personal, and besides demonstrated by lbx that everybody can have their own "fun" interpretations of others lyrics, which is kind of a fun biproduct of producing lyrics.
Quote:
Wake up, so you can see the light
Peering through the windows
Even in this haze you'll never forget
These memories left to rot
|
This is the person waking up and having to remember what he attempted to do and failed the night before. Remembering why he did it, and even through sleep it didn't go away. (people tell you to sleep it off)
Quote:
Doubts, securities
Paranoia, delusions
|
These are the things hes attempting to sleep it off, or get away from
Quote:
All has been in vain
And you want to pay your dues
|
Attempting to fight these things and not being able to succeed. Hes "paying" his dues by suffering.
Quote:
What you've done you claim is benign in nature
Is it really?
Or just cutting out the middle man
For chance at autonomy
judge jury and now executioner
|
This is the person thinking that their action is morally right, and logically the best option for him to do. And instead of continuing to fail at fixing them and or seceding to them he'll judge the value of his life and attempt to right the wrongs.
Quote:
These automative factors will never let you go
Try and fight it to all your hearts desires
You will eventually develop
The sense of mass helplessness
|
This is him realizing the next morning that even though he desires "peace" and removal of himself, that his body will never let him do that. His primal urges will always prevail and there is almost nothing he can do about it. Hence developing learned helplessness. (just going along and accepting something horrible as something that just is and theres nothing you can do about it but "live")
Quote:
Embrace this cold
It suits you well
Wrapped up in your own creation
Your hands feel icy to the touch
|
This is the person the next morning becoming a little more emotionally cold and distant from those who don't feel the same self doubt and so on.
Quote:
As you wipe the sleep from your eyes
And regain lost bearing
You'll feel the overwhelming weight
Of the chains you'll never escape
|
[/quote]
This is him more or less finishing waking up and moving on with the day, and realizing that he's still "trapped."
It is implied that this is either not his first time, or won't be his only attempt at this, and he'll still fail, having to live on knowing that he has failed.
So there thats what the song is "truly" about.
