Easiest way to make synthetic bass tracks on PC?

Are there any software pitch shifters -preferably VST's- that are made for making a clean guitar going in to sound like a bass? I've downloaded GuitarRig 2, haven't played with it yet, can it do that? I know there was a thread about this, but didn't have luck finding it again.

re gr2: yeah theres a pitch patch called 'oktaver' or something. there are also bass setups within ... there's a whole bank of presets for bass, so i'm sure you can figure something out. gr2 is a lot of fun ... post your ultimate custom patch when you've had a chance to play w it. it's all about 'grind crime'. i actually like playing bass through it more than guitar ... it can sound a little on the corny side but the concept is awesome and it has a lot of potential.

otherwise you could record at normal pitch and shift it down an octave after w pretty much any editor. most progs will allow a pitch shift without tempo change.
