If you're considering owning a Legacy head then I would just go ahead and get a V3. The V3 is extremely versatile.

some chick at our school was a straight A valedictorian and everyone loved her. They called her jmac.
she was also the captain of the basketball team.
then she got wasted and drover her car into a 100 year old oak.
dumb bitch.
might you be a reincarnation?
carvin tipically makes a good product.
Ive played my fair share of carvin basses and bass amps, and Ive played through carvin p.a. systems.
for the price you cant get much better.

If I had your 800$ I'd get a Soldano Avenger.

But then again you might not want a high-gain tone monster that has just one channel.

imo, playing jazz on most heads isnt a problem. The clean channel may have a little crunch on some , but that is good, right?
For 800 bucks, the fender MH is pretty decent, i played it a couple times. The head i own now is the randall RM100M, which is pretty darn versitile. But back to your carvin, yes, it is quite versitile, kinda like a Houghes and Kettner Matrix, or triology. They sound pretty sweet.

Crate Blue Voodoo, Ampeg VH140C... Those two have killer lead channels but also have incredibly good cleans that stay clean and don't break up at high volumes, especially the ampeg. Ampeg has generally always been geared towards jazz and blues players. Their VH/SS and VL series amps were their only exceptions because of their brutal lead channels, the rest are all strictly cleanish amps.

The crate gx130c is supposed to be voiced after the ampeg vh series as well.

My Boss GT-3 has a '5150' emulator setting but it doesn't sound anything like a Peavey 5150 Unless its absolutely identical in construction/ parts then its pointless trying to compare the two, regardless of whether it was 'voiced' the same. In reality thats a marketing gimmick. Not to say though that the Crate isn't good in its own right.

From what i've researched, it's very similar to the preamp circuit in the vh140. You do know that crate and ampeg are the same company, right? Of course it's not exactly the same but it's good enough for me and probably others. I don't think they marketed the amp as supposing to sound like anything else anyway - just turns out the circuit is supposedly very similar.

St. Louise Music is a big company that owns both Crate and Ampeg. After ampeg stopped making SS guitar amps Crate started producing amps(the GX series) with preamps modeled after the Ampeg VH140C. But they are NOT identical, and don't sound the same. The GX130C actually sounds a lot more like the SS140C, a bit more sterile than the VH. The VH has a different preamp and poweramp than both the SS and Crate GX/GT/"Flexwave 5" series. The VH sounds way more saturated, saggy, and responsively tube-like, and all around a bit better than the GX or SS series.

But you can nab a GX-130C head for like 200$ on ebay, SS140C's and SS-150's sell for 200-300$ and VH140C heads sell for up to 500$ depending on condition. Great amps I say, I want one, unfortunately a lot of em seem to be caving into poweramp problems due to their age. Some people on HC have had several and they died out on em.

Relax man the SS is a great amp too, but the VH is slightly better.

Correction Crate blue voodoo amp cleans don't break up unless you WANT them too. I must say the volume ability without and WITH gain on the clean channel is quite nice.
