Seymour Duncans Latest Attempt...
...at the active pickup market
they claim to have replicated the tonality of active emgs, but have made their pickups much quieter because they fixed a "design flaw" found in emgs. they even work with quick connect, so im gonna have to give them a try

Cool. Competition is always good; hopefully these are cheaper than regular EMGs.

they wont be. SD is pricey for a standard pup company. EMGs are goddamn quiet enough anyway, any difference made is guna be BARELY noticeable... so you're just guna be blowing another large sum of money on a pickup with no dynamics.

Just get a noise pedal and it'd be quiet enuf anyways. You don't need it getting any quieter.

my emgs make no noise what so ever, even at high volumes. sometimes (pretty retardedly) i forget my guitar is plugged in.
the only reason im gonna check these SD's out is to see if they have a better tone. they said they replicated the tonality of emgs, but i doubt they duplicated it EXACTLY. this means theyre going to sound slightly different to emgs, and i wanna know if its for better or worse. i also wanna hear if the cleans are better on them.
plus the fact that they work with quick connect makes it easy to install with less hassel and allows you to return it/sell it easier. no burnt or soldered cables! just pop it in and then pull it out.

I get more hum out of my EMG guitar than my other passive guitars. And yes I use an NS2.

my emg's are quiet as fuck even when i dime the gain on my amp. The only time they perk up is when i turn on my little guitar preamp in which case they sound like a box of bees. But then again, all my guitars are pretty damn quiet through my marshall

What the fuck? Unbalanced inputs? Why would it matter? The length of wire from the coil to the internal amplifier in the pickup is probably around one millimeter. I can't think of any other "input" in a pickup - You don't really send sound with it.. Now, they they went all out with balanced connectors, XLR jacks and whatnot, then cool, but this? Meh.

oh man... you just dissed the dude who probably knows 100x more than you when it comes to this shit. You're the actual one who knows fuck all... *pat pat*
I think SD is misrepresenting what they did in order to hide it from other companies who are thinkin "daaayymmm, they just made us look like idiots"

i know i know fuck all. i dont claim to know much about gear. im a total noob when it comes to gear. i havent even played through a tube amp for christ sake. i dont claim to be a gear nut!
what i was saying is that im sure that everyong in the technical team at SD know what theyre doing and know much more than this guy.
i guess it may have seemed a bit bold of me to say this:

Alright, i don't claim to know how they work, but they probably used that as a sales gimmick, like the_bleeding says. I said I can't think of any "inputs" in an active pickup and of course i could be wrong.
Edit: NVM the page clearly says "unbalanced inputs to circuits" so i guess they use balanced connections from the pickups into the amplification circuit which should cancel out hum from surrounding power lines by at least 6dB more than standard humbuckers.. At least they told me so at school
