Effects Pedals to your Sound??
Hello everybody,
I have a Marshall Jcm 2000 dual super lead head w/Carvin Legacy 4x12 cab... I want to get a sound like "Tool" out of my amp... What would be a good pedal to get the sound i want? I've tried many pedals before (boss, digitech ect..) but i cant seem to get that sound? Please tell me what works for you, and what sound you like to get from your amp. THanks

you cant get it because you dont have a mesa boogie triple rectifier, or a diezel VH-4.

An eq in the loop, start from there.

If those pedals are being used for distortion then get rid of them, just use the amp distortion. The main need for Tool is good low-end chunk and clarity for riffing. My advice: spend an hour sitting in front of the amp and just play with the EQ until you get the sound you want. +1 therefore on the EQ pedal.

Unless you are referring to his live sound, you could do well (as well as everyone) to learn that there is nothing more futile than trying to replicate album tones. On top of the fact that there is infinite amounts (in most cases) of studio magic applied to guitar sounds these days, most artists have their amps pretty heavily modded to suit their style. Just work on getting a tone that you like.

And yes, he's saying that he like the "Tool" tone.....I don't see what's wrong with replicating another person's tone.

marshalls arent suited for Tool, they're too fizzy, and you cant get it out of the tone because thats how the preamp is designed. You need something with more low end, and from my experiences, DSL's tend to have a problem with it unless the "deep" switch is engaged, and even then, i found it pretty sad. Your question is basically like syaing "how to i turn a marshall into a bogner" its just not guna happen man... the only way i can think of is if you completely mod your amp's preamp section... or find some crazy way to link a number of pedals together to create an artificial preamp section and put it in the FX loop or something...

Yes, and it's not that hard to replicate a tone, obviously you won't get 100% in terms of the quality of tone, but it's not that hard to get a Tool tone.....I don't know on a Marshall though...
