I've seen plenty of threads involving questions about tone. Mostly questions on how to get the right tone.

I was wondering, is the tone really what it seems? There are so many things you can factor into a guitar having an amazing tone on a record. Things like mic choice, mic placement, room sound. Also, the bass may seem to enhance certain frequencies that provide that "Great tone" sound. Whatever it may be.

So is there a stand alone tone that a guitarist could play in a band and sound great? Or is it a team, Bass and Guitar?

Just wanted to hear some opinions.
