stripped rod. HELP!

Hey i got a guitar from a friend and went to adjust the neck and the damn rod in there is stripped, its not an allen design, its a socket. Has anyone had this problem what did you do? I was thinking i could drill a small hole in the top and screw an allen bolt in there and coat it with a shit ton of loctite so i can still loosen the neck, what do u guys think? Its on a jackson rhoads by the way if that matters.

whats wrong with the neck, that you see the need to fix it? a fret buss?

ouch. i remember when i was making my guitar. i fucked up the head stock by adjusting the neck rod. humm...what can you do? humm, take a look this:

you see the neck right below the 21st fret? there is that lil piece of wood missing. you can adjust your neck by putting some sort of plastic wheel around it. though the guitar looks ugly, but for this, you either need to be really good at cutting wood, or take it to the luthier or soemthing. chances are that the luthier will tell you to throw it away(they told me to do the same with my bridge on my frankenstine guitar. i stripped the bridge) but fuck them

Damn. I had a guitar that had the same problem. The guys at the music store told me to replace the neck. So I just trashed the guitar and bought a new one. WELL... I didn't TRASH it. I just don't play it anymore.

well, if your neck is fucked, then why dont you just use the pickups, the body, and everything(including the tuners) and use it towards a nother neck?

perhaps have a custom neck made by a luthier, or just buy another neck from ebay? though if you're looking for a jackson, you are looking for soemthing about 120-300 dollars, just for the neck.

i think its better if you just get a custom neck made by a luthier

I would take it to a luthier first and see what they say.

A Cost free fix for this!

Yea I was looking at it and the nut is stripped at the top to about half way down. What I decided to do vs. spending money on a new neck, was to just get a little hack saw blade in there and cut the nut half way down so now the stripped part is cut off and the lowest part of it is fine..its actually easier to adjust now because of all the extra room in there being that the top of it is further down.
