when i did it, i slackened the string a bit to adjust the saddle, then tuned back up and re-checked it. if you have to adjust more, then repeat. you definitely should not have to remove the strings, just carefully get the screwdriver in there at a bit of an angle (shouldn't strip since it will be flathead).
