Perhaps this could be the thing. Nothing like Pantera or Megadeth, but still. Pretty decent vocals.
Strong recommendation: Start out with No spirit ascending.

Some fucking talented musicians. Not a huge fan of what some call the "core scene", but no matter, these guys make some good well-rounded music.

this sounds like a sleep or electric wizard wannabe. still pretty decent, but not as good as the aforementioned.

damn sure. the songs have nothing in common other than the name. umm...it could have been a cover, since slayer did the song in '86, and savatage in 91. but totally different. see for your self:

oh, and for the thread, you can also try some US heavy metal bands like:
CircleIICircle---(or circle II circle)
Andromeda

or progressive metal like Lalu. try their song 'Potboy...'

They don't have the newer stuff up, those are from the mid-90s. They have very clean vocals now...er...they broke up, but here's the singer/guitarist's new band.

Also check out Big Business and YOB and MIDDIAN.

Sepultura lyrics were hilarious back then! Of course their English was and is way better than my Portugese would ever be.

Nevermore would be my suggestion. They can be seriously heavy but their singer is almost power-metallish.
