Just got my Crate GX-130C, any tips for it?

Don't say throw it away and get something else.

I was thinking of replacing the speakers and getting a 2x12 extension cab for it as well. I haven't fired it up yet since my guitar is sans pickups but i'm working on that. I'm just getting back into playing after a break for a few years.

My tips would be to check out reviews on Harmony Central, then you get feedback from people who have played the amp and therefore know what mods etc work. I wouldn't buy anything until you can play it and determine whether it has any weak areas. First I'd get some pickups in that guitar! As a rule decent speakers will always make an amp sound better, providing that you choose wisely regarding tone specifics and whether you want more headroom or early breakup.

Speakers would be a good idea but probably not necessary at this point if they're working fine. I'd just suggest a swap if you're going to do some serious cranking and are afraid that the stock speakers won't handle it for too much. It's a SS amp so if you blow the speakers the rest of the amp will remain intact, so you can put off the upgrade for a while.

A good suggestion = get all the input jacks replaced/cleaned if you notice any noise/volume drops. Inexpensive servicing. A lot of old Crates are very prone to this.

Yah I checked all the reviews out, I knew this is the amp I wanted for the price I was willing to pay. I really like CCorpse since i'm from Buffalo and all. Jack used this amp so that's a plus. Sure their earlier tone was a bit shitty but I like it. I'll save up for a bogner later.

My guitar is an old Hamer USA Chapparal from the late 80s, 89 I think. I had an emg 81 but sold that a while back and i'm going to get a X2N or Air Norton this week. Most of my influences in guitar tone and style is Morbid Angel and CCorpse and Suffocation.
