vintage 30 are good for everything and are in most metal players cabs. for a different sound you may want to mix and match different speakers with the vintage 30s. perhaps 2 g12-75 (or whatever) and 2 vin 30s

why celestions? Eminence has a larger range of speakers, all good quality, and all for less money.
and no specific speaker is good for METAL as you say. There are countless subgenres, all with specific sounds, and then even more countless bands which all tweak differently. It would help ALOT if we knew what sound you were going for, and your setup. (guitar, amp)
but yeah... v30's are standard in high end cabs, and are dark sounding in comparison to other celestions, considered a very natural speaker which lets the amp speak for itself.
Greenbacks are low wattage, vintage, very bright, and break up quickly. I dont know who uses greenbacks in metal, but weezer use them in a marshal 1968 4x12... the cabinet is built to be a 4x10, but somebody comissioned marshall to put guitar speakers in it (was it pete townsend?) and as a result, some of the trebel is bled off and the speakers express more bass.
G12T-75's are pretty much the cheapest and have scooped mids and are considered to be more fizzy than others.
Celestion Blues have such low wattage that you'll never use them .
Celestion Golds are high wattage blues: expensive, but allegedly the purest tone you'll ever get, with enough wattage to handle something more than an 8 watt combo hahahaha.
a mix is supposed to be the best. When i finally get my first cab i'm probably going to be getting something with g12t-75's or V30's, whichever suits my marshall 6100 better... the only reason i'm going for celestions is because of my very limited access to cabinets at local stores.

V30's are pretty much the standard. They sound good mixed with other speakers as well. One of my favorite combos is 2 V30's and 2 Classic lead 80's. Eminence makes great stuff as well, I currently have a 4x12 with two Swamp Thangs and two Man-O-Wars. My Powerball is getting modded though so I havent had much of a chance to really put them through their paces.
EDIT: I hate the GT-75's though. If a speaker could ever be described as sucking your tone, that would be it.

Damn the two cabs I was looking at getting have G12t-75s(JCM9004x12 and Avatar 2x12) Maybe I should just go for the 2x12 Avatar cab with Swamp Thangs. Why did you get Manowars with the Swamp Thangs?

Well to be more specific, the GT-75's are scooped and fizzy sounding.
I got that combo because I liked the description of the Swamp Thangs, they fill out a lot of low end, and xdislexicx recommended the Man-O-Wars, they are more aggressive in he top end.

I have a Randall cab with 4 celestion vintage 30s and I play a variety of music which includes mostly rock and metal, anything from lets say AC/DC, Aerosmith to Metallica to Death, Pantera, Dying Fetus , CC, Morbid Angel, etc. To me the speakers sound good for anything i play. My amp head could be improved a bit actually (im planning on upgrading to the rm4 and rt2/50 rack setup sometime in the distant future once i get a decent bass and a starter drum set).

I like the mix of 2 V30's and 2 g12t-75's because a g12t-75 has scooped mids and a v30 is basically mids (to my ears atleast)therefore complementing each other.as for eminence speakers ive only tryed the texasheat and it was pretty good.

as far as celestions go, v30's and g12-75's work well for metal. the bogner uber cab made mixing them pretty common amongst high gain dudes.

Celestion V60. Sounds pretty sweet - full and fat midrange without that creepy 60's rock sound that most Celestions seems to be cursed with, decent, tight bottom end plus it doesn't have that dangerous eardrum-drill brittle high end that has fucked up a lot of musician's ears over the years.

The V60 is just another name for a Vintage 30 correct?

pretty sure its a v30 with more wattage handling. dont quote me on that.
correction: v60's do not exist. Its a typo when engl published their cab speakers. They are actually v30's.

Hah, V30's do in fact handle 60 watts. Seems silly they wouldnt call it a V60.

Noo, vintage 30 != 60. It's called celestion v12-60.. supposed to be a cheapo, but to me it sounds the best of all the celestions, and that's what matters to me. ENGL calls these V60.
