Speech Level Singing

Does anyone study this approach to singing?

For those who don't know what it is, it's basically learning to sing with your natural speaking voice but in a more sustained manner over different pitches and dynamics. Also, you learn to control your larynx so it stays in a comfortable position - not going up and down (I took these definitions from websites).

What do you people think of this technique? Has it been helping to achieve areas of singing you have not been able to before?

At the moment I'm still trying to get through the first phase of utilising a mixed voice of both the head and chest resonant spaces, traversing above high E without strain. Has anyone been able to accomplish this? If so, do you have any tips?

Cheers.
