Ibanez Question.
OK, i know that the original edge's and edge pro's are what you want. Now today at a used guitar store i saw an RG550 for 450ish. it looked to have an Licensed Floyd Rose, and nothing next to the edge pro II's and etc. IS that an original edge? there was no serial # nor "made in ___" on the neck just "RG550". It was burgundy and NO pick guard.
If this is a good find, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!

its most likely to be an edge or a lo-pro edge (low profile version of the edge) as those were the ones that were used on the rg550 before the edge pro came out. the edge pro 2 and all that other crap wasnt made when they were producing the rg550's, so its not going to be that.
which one out of these two was it:
lo pro

edge

as you said it looked like a normal floyd rose, that means that its most likely to be the edge.
btw, $450 is ok, its the going rate of that guitar

You can find better deals on a used RG5xx than what they have in guitar stores, but if it's in nice condition, then $450 isn't terribly bad if it comes with a case. It's most likely an original edge bridge, and they're great. I've got an RG570 with the original edge. It stays in tune perfectly.

KICK ASS BOYS!
it is the original edge, and the condition was good, had a scratch, and no dings. but it looked like it needed some cleaning, and the trem had some dust on it, but no rust.
again thanks.

Awesome man. They are made extremely well, and it should have no stability problems if it's a real Edge.

Kind of unrelated, but why do companies like Ibanez and Floyd continue to make the crappy tremolos (liscenced floyds, edge pro IIs, etc) and put them on their high-end guitars/get put on high-end guitars?

edge pro IIs on high-end guitars? they put edge pros on high-end guitars, not edge pro IIs.. they make really nice vibrato bridges for their high-end, ones with great tuning stability.

Yeah, I love my original wizard neck. I don't even use the trem on my 570 much, and I may block it, but I'd never give up the neck it has. It's an extension of my fingers.

Oh, my mistake then. Is Edge Pro II like a sequel to the original Edge Pro? Or was it just made to be a cheaper version?

I don't know why they ever quit putting the original Edge trems on their mid grade models. Those new Edge Pro II's suck! I have a RGT42 and it is no where near as stable as the original Edge on my 550.

Amen to that. I got the same model and let me tell you this bridge is the worst I have ever played. I don't even use the trem bar at all anymore. I am seriously thinking about putting a Kahler on it cause it's seriously pissing me off lattley. I mean I have it set up to B standard but fuck man it should handle it.
