Tension

Ok. I use the same guage strings every time I change them. Beefy slinky. There are some times though, the strings feel a little tighter and other times feel a little springy. I don't like to play on very tight strings. I was wondering if the floating bridge had something to do with the varying tension in the strings?

I don't normally worry too much about the level of the bridge. Sometimes its up a little high and others its back. BUT not much. just a couple of hairs.

Sorry if thats confusing. Ask questions if you need to.

You should definitely care about the angle of your bridge.. but if you don't change tunings or string gauges, then it should always be the same.

Are you changing your tuning every once in a while? If you change it at all without adjusting the springs in the back cavity, you'll definitely notice a big difference in the way they feel. The action may also suck, because the bridge angle changes, changing the action at the same time.

Yeah. The bridge is not badly out of whack with the body, but just a hair you know. And I stay the same tuning, but see... I went down a half step, set up the springs and went back to previous tuning and the strings felt tighter than usual. What is it? Both times the bridge was pretty level. give or take a milimeter.

So you went down half a step, adjusted the springs accordingly, then went back to standard tuning without changing the springs? I always adjust the springs, even when just changing 1/2 a step. It should definitely change the angle of the bridge enough to need an adjustment. It does on mine, anyway. One thing to look for is that, when you're tuning, make sure that your bridge has just returned from a dive (not a gigantic dive, you can even just pull it up lightly with your hands and let it return). That's where the bridge will be most of the time. There is a difference between tuning it up after the bridge has been pulled up and released VS when it has been pushed in and released. Every time you bend a note, it pulls the bridge up a bit, so that is how you will want to tune it. Check out www.jemsite.com for lots of info on setting up floyd rose style bridges (assuming that's what you have?).

Another question is.. how old is your guitar? What kind of quality is it? Lower-end floyd rose copies will turn to crap after several years. The blades become very dull and kinda "sticky," meaning they'll stop before returning back to the right pitch. The blades can be filed down. Jemsite or projectguitar.com should cover how to do that if you need to. This could have something to do with your problem.

Yes, I adjust the springs EVERY time I tune the guitar or change the strings. I'm also not understanding that returning from a dive deal. What does that mean? Push down on the whammy bar and let it come back up?

That stuff won't matter unless your blades and posts are in very bad condition. Does it return to pitch when you use the whammy? If it's always out of tune when you use it, then it's time to either lock the bridge or sharpen the blades, maybe repair the posts, etc.

Changing the angle of the bridge can affect the feel of the guitar, though. When it's slightly above the correct angle, it can feel a bit more loose. The opposite is true when the bridge is sunk down a little into the guitar.

No tuning problems. Returns very well back into pitch after some hardcore whammy bar use. The issue with my guitar is keeping the same tension. OH by the way, i forgot to answer a question asked. My guitar is a Ibanez RG1570 with and edge pro.

I'd bet that this is entirely perception. Unless you have some fancy device to calculate the absolute tightness of the strings relative to a fixed scale...
If you tune down and tune back up, the strings will always seem a bit tighter.
