Is this normal?

I am a guitarist but I play bass in the school jazz band. Whenever I play bass I have a small problem that really isn't bad but it bugs me. whenever I change to a different string or fret it is accompanied by a lot of clicking and fret buzz. I don't have the strings set to low or anything either is it just a normal bass noise or what?

The problem might be your attack angle with your fingers or maybe you're slowly releasing the the string too early causing it to buzz before you are moving to a different string/fret.

I don't know if it's the angle I'm attacking the string or not, I do use a pick though(Come on! I'm a guitarist!) It sounds like the little clicking noises come from the fret I'm playing. Whenever I start to move my hand to change to a different note, I guess the string is still vibrating pretty hard so it makes those noises. I've tried muting it with my hand and stuff, it just won't work. I guess the bass guitar is just too powerful for me!

I still dont quite understand what you are doing to cause this to happen. If you could post a sound clip or even a video that would be really helpful.

Don't worry about it. I'm using the schools Ibanez now so I think I'll be okay

still wouldnt reccomend a pick with jazz, usually with jazz you need a smooth low end-rich attack. with hardly eny edge to your tone
