Lamb of God=Great?
I like this band and they are very popular but in a recent Revolver review for sacrament they said "lamb of god should be-and will be-remebered with the greats. The greats are Pantera,Metallica and Sabbath. What are your thoughts on this? Bullshit? Maybe. Gospel Truth? I dont fucking know so you guys decide

I like their last two albums a lot... But there are lots of people here who will probably say that they aren't metal. Wouldn't say they are one of the greats however...

They're one of the better metalcore bands. Not the best. The drummer's rather good, though.

They are one of the better metalcore bands, but I wouldn't say they're great and I don't listen to them anymore.
In other news, Metallica still has always been mediocre.

Great? Most certainly not. Just another overrated mainstream metal band to me.
And thrash my ass. They're a metalcore band period.

There not bad, the best of a hyped bunch, but whether they'll be listed as one of the greats?? But to be honest does it really matter? If you like the albums and enjoy them all power to ya!
I like the debut but it was spoiled by that annoying 'ching ting' ride cymbal thingy that was far too loud in the mix and over used in every song. Note to Lamb of God 'Don't let a drummer produce your album'

I only have ashes of the wake and I dont like it a whole lot. I find their guitar tone weak, vocals are meh, it just adds up to be ho-hum metalcore. I guess some parts are a bit like thrash but not much. I doubt ill listen to it more than the one time I did. Im surprised so many of you like this band when you condemn metalcore so much. No idea why they are super-popular either.
I enjoy a fair amount of metalcore btw.

I watched their video for "Redneck" I think. Good god, it's horrible. It sounds like Pantera mixed in with that poor metalcore tone. And the video was so gay it wasn't even funny. "Lamb of God for a birthday party."
And I know it's poor character to judge looks, but I'm glad Randy got rid of the mohawk or whatever it was from "Ashes of the Wake," but did he have to shave his head?

Chris Adler is a pretty damn good drummer and thats about it. The vocals are god awful (he apparently uses distortion on them) and then when listening to the new album I realized how incredibly predictable the guitars are "Gee they are playing a chugging riff centered around D, I wonder if Bb is going to come next? "

i have a feeling that if lamb of god was some super underground band you guys would love them.
it is completely the fact that they are at least some what 'popular' that you guys think they suck

That's why the board still cums for Metallica, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, etc.
Because they hate anything that is at least some what popular.

Wrong. I discovered LoG around the time they had their first 2 albums out(pretty underground back then) and I still thought they were shite.

I got into them when they released as the palaces burn, I got ashes of the wake, but I'm pretty bored of them now. I don't really see why people hate them musically, I think they've got some cool riffs and no emo brakdowns a la killswitch engage.
edit: that said, I've not heard their newest album

I do admit some of their riffs are mildly entertaining but their songwriting and arrangements are just the "standard" and "run of the mill" metalcore which I've grown to hate. Not to mention the production always came across as garbage, and I never liked their vocalist...

they are not great but still good.
of course Log are not similiar ( I dont know the right word sorry ) to Metallica or Death, bands that started a revolution.
ok now what I think of Log
bad
the vocalist
the lirycs are pretty silly
often they repeat to much the main riff
only a couple of solos in an entire cd
good
the drummer
drummer's riffs
guitarists are not bad
contractimes ( i dont know the right word sorry)
riffs are not bad
solos mm not good but not bad I think they're solos are normal
very american trash riff so they have stile
so for this type of sonorities I prefer Kataklysm this two bands are really very similiar.

i firmly believe that LoG is neither metal nor thrash, but metalcor to me doesn't quite ft. I used to like them, only had one CD so kind of a predictable outcome for my feelings on that band i knew that randy blythe could sound like CHRIS BARNES (ascension). Yes the tone is also pumped full of mids. I'm not sure why i liked them, cuz they NEVER had ANY solos
definitely NOT legendary in any definition

I remember picking up The New American Gospel when it came out because 'it sounds like Meshuggah.' Didn't care much for 'em then, and don't care much for 'em now. But I'm firmly convinced that being one of 'the greats' has more to do with exposure than outplaying other bands. Metallica and Pantera weren't the best metal bands of their period, and certainly weren't the most innovative, but were well-placed in the scene and with respect to the world outside. They also weren't the most popular bands of the period. They had an acceptable mix of 'genuine' metal and exposure. That's what being one of the 'greats' is, and so I don't see why Lamb of God shouldn't qualify.
And most of these people weren't actively into music when Metallica (I'm only including the period during which they made music people on this forum like, as much of the following is untrue in their case otherwise), Pantera, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin were at their heights, and even then there wasn't a metal selling machine in place like there is now (Led Zeppelin was originally a big deal for being one of the biggest bands in the world without radio or single sales support, remember). Lamb of God's ascent coincides with unprecedented media exposure, and for that reason their popularity is different in kind than the other bands'. There's not just one type of popularity and it's a closeminded 'underground' badge-wearer who thinks that there is.

They're just... ERGH! They're about the dumbest looking things in my opinion. Almost as dumb as the emo hair flippy thing.
This is just nothing more than a pet peeve of mine.
One question; is it me, or does the guitar sound LOG has and the sound on Death's "Sound of Perseverence" sound very similar? Some of the riffs do, too. I smell RIPOFF!

You're hearing things. Lamb of God sound like Death insofar as both bands contrast a trem'd open D with high harmonized single-note patterns, but that's true of thousands of metal bands. If I thought those guys had really listened to enough Death to rip it off, they'd probably be better. Just a coincidence having to do with the fact that there are certain styles in production and composition that various bands work within.

I was jokingly exaggerating with the ripoff comment. Sorry.
But the guitar tone sounds very similar between the two. Listen to Death's "Bite the Pain" and listen to the instrumental on "Ashes of the Wake."
There is one riff in each song that both sound really similar.
It's nothing more than just a curious thing.

my friend used to be into Burn the Priest, for a while. then he followed up when it became Lamb of God, and liked that for an even shorter while. as for me, i didnt like any of it, so whether or not i think they are great, is obvious now.

if they want to stay as popular as they are they cant make as the palaces burn 4 times in a row. They need to add some variations to the songs.

They were one of my main gateways into extreme metal, and will always have a softspot in my ears. Everything from "Burn The Priest" to "As The Palaces Burn" fucking rules in my book. I am not much of a fan of the new direction they have taken, but at least they do it well.
And getting popular at a time where metalcore around you is getting popular does not make you a metalcore band.

Metalcore had a very different description before Lamb of God/Killswitch/Unearth started getting famous, and that definition is the one I'm sticking to. John Mansley will tell you.
Believe it or not.

I hardly would consider them metalcore as they don't sound like a bunch of inept faggots that can't play a riff of more than four notes. This would be the same as calling Pantera "metalcore". I'm not saying they're as good as Pantera, but as far as straight up metal bands go, they are an awesome one.

I can't see how they've changed their style one bit. The only time this ever happened with them was when they released As The Palaces Burn. If anything they sold out in a heavier direction at that time.

Just want to add that I personally will always view Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer as the "big three".
