Read here or elsewhere where there's a forum for writen lyrics and take note of constructive comments. If the writer states how the piece came about that might give you an angle, but then try to write something from your own perspective.
Go to a metal band or lyric site and read lyrics that pros have written. Even if you've never heard much from the band musically sometimes you'll get a feel and flow without even hearing the music. It's usually pretty cool to hear things later and see what they really sound like.
If something comes out sounding to much the same as something else, say it in a different way or elaborate on it. Don't just change words with a thesaurus or it can be too obvious. Use it as a tool if necessary, but don't base your whole piece that way.
You say you have one you like but others are crap. You might post the one you like here and we'll comment on it. PST is strict about it not just being a bash session so don't worry about that. You're gonna run into unconstructive critics so if there's something constructive in the comment take that and leave the rest. Don't take it as a personal insult or attack.
I used to think some of my stuff wasn't that great until I got feedback and found out some liked it. Not everyone, but some. You'll find the same thing.
You can feel free to pm me anything to read if you don't want to post it. And if there's anything more specific you need to know ask.
