Do you fucking people know what blues is? Yes? Styx? The Police? King Crimson? Genesis? What the fuck happened to you that got you to confuse prog rock and Reggae-influence New Wave with blues-based hard rock? Captain Beefheart is bluesy as fuck, but do you think he's bluesy in the same way as Foghat? C'mon. Might as well throw in Faust, Pere Ubu, Soft Machine, and the Mahavishnu Orchestra while you're at it.

There are about 100 bands in that vein and they're on every 70's rock compilation. Rolling Stones and Aerosmith come to mind. Cheap Trick. Thousands of others.

Oh, and shame on moe_blunts for suggesting that anybody skip Captain Beefheart. Thinking like that is fast and bulbous - got me?

Warren Zevon is from the 70's and he ruled. I'll also vouch for Thin Lizzy, I have the album Jailbreak, and the whole fucking thing is good. There are a lot of good, old, classic rock albums that can be listened to beginning to end. The first three Aerosmith albums come to mind, as well.

I also feel the need to express my amazement that Rush was thrown in with "blues based 70's hard rock" bands. Amazingly enough, I love them more than any of those such bands.
