anyone know any good gothic metal bands? i love this stuff, but the only gothic bands i have are old theatre of tragedy and type o negative......

any other good suggestions?

in case you dont know, gothic music is easy, kinds slow, relaxing (at least i think) music. it is pretty keyboard/synthesizer heavy with piano too.....
vocals are usually clean or close to it, cuz if they scream or growl, it would sound to much like black metal......

i'm just generalising the whole 'chick with metal' thing. i'm not into the whole thing too much, but my friend listens to alot of it, and thats just how i remember Ancient.

Ancient has a female vocalsit too ... but actually you can't hear her a lot ... and it's not a soft voice ...it's just like Aphazel's ... almost the same ... well the old female vocalist was better than the one they have right now ...

it DOES matter how many albums you sell, despite what you say. here is my reasoning.

first off, pop music sales and metal music sales are different in a sense. dont always use the "if britney spears........"
plus, BS doesnt write her own music, so dont use her as an example......

ok, im pretty sure Obituary has the highest record sales of any pure death metal band. the album "the end complete" as of 1998, sold 250,000-300,000 copies worldwide. well, only people that like metal music would like Obituary. and judging by the sales, that would make it seem like Obituary is the most preffered pure death metal band. does that make them the best? your opinion may say no, but the majority says yes.

now, type o and SOTB are both goth bands. people who like goth music like type o, typeo sells better that SOTB, thus making type o a better band by majority, maybe not by your opinion though............

Type O Negative is more known than any other goth band I think ... publicity ... well I've seen some cunts at my school that listen Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit,Papa Roach and that shit ..and hey! .. they know Type O Negative too ... but do they know ... Crematory ? ... SOTB ? ... NO !!! ... then what does it means ? ... is Type O Negative commercial ? .. you answer it ...

I'll throw my two cents into this. The only band that you guys have mentioned that I've ever heard was Type O Negative. The album October Rust is really cool, when I'm in the mood for it. I don't like the other things I've heard by them very much though...

I'm probably a litlle late here, but...
The bands that are "commercial", are bands the record companies wants to sell albums. They get to tour, they get a lot of advertising, people hear about them, people like them, people think they are best. BUTan example)
In Norway, Satyricon - Volcano was the 4th most-selling band. They are black metal. Some say they are best, because they sell most. But, they are on EMI. EMI has made sure that they signing a black metal band has been noticed. The media has been filled with it. People have heard about Satyricon, and they decide to check out the album. Will they buy Rebel Extragavanca? I doubt it. They will buy Volcano, because it is "best" right now. It was the same with Dimmu Borgir a few years back. And the majority of those who buy Volcano, have never heard of Immortal, Old Man's Child, Dissection or other great black metal bands. They have nothing to compare with. They are supposed to think that Satyricon is the best band. That is how it works.
I have seen Type O on MTV, but never Tristania. Does that mean Type O is better? I think not. Ask all of those you say think Type O is best wether they have heard of the other bands mentioned here. I doubt it....
