but I don't think they've sold out to anyone at all! their sound is not THAT much difference, they are still writing offensive shit that will barely get air play, "youre a fucken bastard youre a fucken bastard youre a fucken bastard and a shit cunt too!" i dont think a video means a band has sold out.

Kiss and Metallicia are the two bands that have ever sold out completely.
The Exploited didn't sell out, but if it's on MTV it only hurts.
If you have a video on Headbangers Ball (which still sucks) it doesn't count. |

That's probably because they're into punk and both bands occupy that tag of 'punk' I would think it unfair to judge other punk acts solely on the fact that kids at school who listen to Green Day like them(I'm not saying that's what you are doing but I think that may fog your judgement or willingness to listen to them with an open ear) If that were the case it would negate all punk, bands like the Pistols, GBH, The Damned, Crass, Discharge, Dead Kennedy's, Black Flag, UK Subs, Ramones etc as these are all probably liked by those said Green Day punk kids!
Get this, Green Day is not the same as The Exploited!!!! They probably only say they're in to them to gain some kudos and look a little more hardcore punk.
As for the Exploited selling out!!!!!???? What (or Wattie!) has that got to do with having a vid on MTV! Half the bands mentioned on this forum have had vids played on music TV! I first heard of the Exploited by a pop TV program in the early 80's, where they performed on prime time TV(doing Dead Cities as it happens) along side acts such as the Nolans, David Bowie and other pop acts like Duran Duran! So I guess they must have sold out back then ?   The Exploited are perhaps a little more thrash than they first were at the start of their career but none of their albums have been lightweight watered down affairs, so fuck off with the sell out bollocks!
The Exploited were one of the leaders of the 2nd wave of UK punk(or anarcho punk) they were a major influence on the thrash metal, noise, grind and hardcore scene(along with GBH and Discharge to name but a few) and one of the reasons you have the extreme music scene you so love today!!!! |

It was different back then, though.
Let me put it another way. Exploited is not bad (or really sell outs, I used that phrase for lack of a better phrase), but I think they get too much recognition, whereas GBH and Discharge (as you mentioned) get little to none. Maybe it's good that way thought, because they then hold that cult status that is untarnished by Hot Topic (they sell DK, Black Flag and Exploited shirts [good bands should not be in there]) or other fad stores. |

I don't know, Discharge get far more praise and attention, I've read recently far more Discharge interviews and reviews than GBH and The Exploited. Plus far more bonus tracks on CD's include Disharge cover versions (Anthrax, Machine Head, Soulfly etc) GBH get woefully ignored, but like you say that ain't a bad thing
