Line 6 Toneport UX1 - good for DI'ing and amp micing?

Sycophant and a few others have suggested to me to get the Tascam US-122 USB interface for recording, but I've been a bit worried as to its reliability as it has horrible reviews and is a little more costly than all the other introductory level USB interfaces. The Line 6 Toneport UX1 thingy has caught my eye, I'm thinking of buying one real soon, but I need some advice.

Can this thing sound good with it's 16bit/42khz or 24bit/48khz settings with both a condenser mic AND a DI box with an XLR out? I'm not buying this for the "guitar simulator" crap, I'll be using my own real amp for recording in either DI or micing form. Does anyone here own one and what do they think of it for said purposes? Anyone have some clips that they've recorded with it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

i had one. it worked great for a week. then one day it kept cutting out then the smell of totally fried electronics filled the room. when i went to turn the volume off i was shocked by fucking electricity and it hasnt worked since. line6 didnt even want to listen to my complaint they just told me it was impossible but ive talked to several people on the line6 board who have had the same problem. it was definitely sweet while it lasted though.

Was your computer's power outlet grounded? That's the first thing that came to my mind when I read that, as I used to get zapped when DI'ing into my comp by hooking up a multiFX to the soundcard.

The reviews for it were pretty good, meanwhile the ones for the tascam were horrible...

I have a toneport UX2. Which, if i remember rightly, wasnt that much more than a UX1 so if anything, go for that.

My knowledge of DI boxes is pretty much nonexistant however, so how it fares against, well, anything else, I dont know. What I can do is record a sample, if you want? Itd just be a PodXT running in to its Line level input though, but having done that and run a mic'd cab through it, the quality was both the same imo.

Samples aside, i would recommend them. Ive heard good things about toneports from others as well.

Thanks but nevermind, I realized that it's a product mostly geared for hooking up preamps or using the Line 6 models and stuff, and micing vocals not exactly amps. Hence I'm going with a Tapco(by Mackie) interface as they're geared towards micing dudes and they use high end high headroom mic pre's which'll help me loads, plus they have 2 inputs. Thx anyway.

I am not an expert but form what I have heard and read going DI from your amp to your computer will not get you a good recorded sound. I would suggest the V-Amp Pro if you want to DI record your guitar, you can even use it for bass tracks. I just recorded a full-length CD (death metal) and I only used the V-Amp Pro. Listen to all 8 Bloodsoaked (death metal) songs here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pag...m?bandID=481840
