What speakers are in my cab?
Okay, so I went ahead and opened up my 1960 Marshall cab again to check and see if the wiring and all was ok, when then another thing I was meaning to figure out popped into my head. Who else was I gonna ask but you guys on MetalTabs?
When I bought this cab from a guy back in 2002, he said it had Celestion v30's inside. Now, I was kinda dumb and didn't check to see if that was true or not, I just needed a cab really bad. Well, I found out they weren't Celestion v30's when I opened up the cab after I got it, but I let that pass and over time it never really was an issue.
So now, I'm trying to figure out what freakin' speakers this thing has. They look like this:
Black on the back, gold circle all along the outer edge. Right above the center there is the script 'Marshall' logo in gold too. There is a gold circle around the center, where the cone is on the other side. On the outer ridge of the bottom half is the following writing : "Made In England by ROLA CELESTION LTD." Below that on the very edge of the bottom rim of the black back: "For Jim Marshall Products LTD."
I don't think these are Celestion v30's at all, the ones I've seen are different. Maybe these that I have are really old, I have no clue. My webcam sucks, so sorry for the lack of pics! The dude I got the cab from didn't tell me what year the cab was made either. I was so gear-ignorant back then that I actually thought it was a Marshall cab from 1960 (with Celestion v30's.. yeah right.)
I hope one of you guys can help me with what damn speakers I have in my cab. Cheers.

TMFreak, are you saying that all 1960 cabs come with Greenbacks? Cuz I know you're not the dude I bought the cab from
The one thing I'm worried about is not being able to find out what speakers I have because they'll look the same like a bunch of 'em.

they arent greenbacks, greenbacks are GREEN. NOT GOLD
and only 1960C's have greenbacks silly... and green backs are only 25 watts...
theyre marshall/celestion custom vintages... imagine a vintage 30, but instead of 60 watts, theyre 70 watts... gives you more clean headroom... given that your amp doesnt distort before the speakers do :P

Finally... Bleeding, you are a gear guru. No more will I have to puzzle about what speakers I have in my cab. My cab has been through hell and back and is totally stripped of it's Marshall identity [spraypainted blue, no cloth, exposed speakers, spraypainted seasick green face, tons of holes from where there used to be screws drilled in, no Marshall logo, just the same as my avatar is on the face] but it's in decent condition and works, besides looking awesome. I know speakers are an important part of tone and that's something I definetly do not want to neglect. I can't find much info about them, but I'm seeing on the net that these speakers have a sort of 'warmer' tone quality, which is cool. The fact that they're legit speakers is enough!

theyre just v30 clones... they might sound a tiny bit different, but not enough to really notice... kinda like what g12t-100's are to g12t-75's... same voice with different wattage... oh and i'd reccommend filling in the holes in your cab... cabs arent supposed to have holes in them...
and i bet if xdiscx was awake and online... he would have beaten me to it... seeing how he knows a billion times more than me... and i learn alot of my shit from him.... i just have nothing to do for 6 days so i'm guna be nerding it up alot hahahah.
EDIT: added
oh shit... i shoudl clarify... the 75 watt speakers in marshalls are G12t's... NOT greenbacks which are G12m's.... g12t's have more scooped mids...

I dunno if it's practical to do that. There's like 100 holes (I counted) on the front of the cab, where there used to be screws drilled right into it. When I was taking them all out this summer to clean up the cab, I took them all out, and luckily, some of the got drilled right onto the speaker's metal casing but not onto the speakers themselves. How should I go about filling these in, and is it even damn possible?

most 1960 cabs come with g12t-75's... but those are black and white on the sticker. other versions come with greenbacks(25w and green). and some with marshall's relabeled v30's. they used to come with real v30's, but a few years ago they started with the "vintage" by celestion's, which to my understanding are slightly tweaked vintage 30's. but i could be wrong, maybe it's nothing more than a relabel like what mesa does and claiming them as 70w speakers.
are they like the ones in this pic?
