most technical/difficult piece of guitar music youve ever heard
i need some help from you guitarists here. my friends guitar teacher boldly claims that he can learn anything in about ten minutes. i set this arrogant bastard up with some necrophagist, and sure enough within a minute or two he had dropped his tuning and was tearing through it. so in short i need the absolute most difficult stuff you can throw at me. thanks guys.

Well I think there's no point, just go and take classes from him.
Maybe some Spawn of Possession or Psycroptic? Internal Suffering? Becker or any other shreddish shit, but I'm sure he already plays some of that stuff if he's that good.

Yngwie Malmsteen- Arpeggios from Hell? I would imagine learning the full like 2:30 of it in under 10 minutes would be impossible.

not really... only the fill in camilla rhoads... and the only reason its hard is because it is made of random notes that have no relation to eachother in regards to scale, so its practically impossible to memorize... the rest of it is easy as balls.

Yeah they're a pretty straightforward band. Even the sweeps in that song on their TV commercial aint that hard.

The shit you just mentioned doesnt really hold a candle to Necrophagist.
I'm pretty sure that if this dude is busting through Necrophagist songs within a minute he will most likely be able to get down the Dragonforce solos as well.
Ron Jarzombek is a good choice, tough chords and wacko rhythms.
Maybe some Allan Holdsworth stuff? Al DiMeola? Or any of those insane shredders will give him a tough time.

You need to hit him up with some extremely complex time signature arrangements. Just find a song that has some nearly nonsensical time signature combinations. Maybe some Meshuggah? I've never learned anything of theirs but it sounds pretty difficult to play to. Maybe the guitar parts are easy but it sounds like there are different rhythms going on with different instruments.
You could also give him some Mattias "IA" Eklundh. He probably wouldn't be able to master that whammy bar shit in 10 minutes.

excellent, thanks for all the suggestions. my next move is probably gonna involve some jamborek, or possibly cannibals' "frantic disembowelment". hes old school so i think the odd times/chords are my best bet. yngwie is a no go, he tears through that too. and i am definitely going in for some lessons.

King Crimson - Larks Tounges In Aspic Part III (the intro).
I think Robert Fripp himself is the only guitarist alive who can play that thing.

I find playing any Cynic song difficult, not coz of shredding coz of chords i would never use and strum patterns i would never use.

Give him 'Halls Of Amenti' by Cephalic Carnage. Not that its hard or anything, just that it's 30 minutes long, so he phisically wont't be able to learn it and play it in 10 minutes. unless he speeds it up to 300%, which could be done but meh.
EDIT: Actually dude, give him this haha...
http://images.flabber.nl/imagepopup...e=dodenwals.jpg
If you show him, tell us what he says .. Since he said "any music(that he can learn in 10 minutes)"...

Cabinet or Lash by Lash by Spawn Of Possession should do the trick.
And if he still can, then it's time for some good old Ion Dissonance.

I was thinking that or DEP or Psyopus but even then they wouldn't be THAT hard.
Maybe Mr. Cucumber - Caspersens Secret Fetish
the guitar's simply a blur in sections. I'd be fucking impressed if he could work it out and play it in 10 minutes.

Allan Holdsworth is right, make sure he also does the proper note positions so that it sounds for sax-like.
Better yet, give him some Orthrelm.

Anything from Symphony X. Might be cheating, but you could give him one of the 20 minute songs.. doubt he could learn them in 10, lol.

Dream Theater's music is great and Petrucci is greatly skilled, but their music isn't overly technical like the bands mentioned before you in this thread.

If he can learn Necrophagist in ten mins. then he probably likes to shred anyway, which would make it way too likely that he already knows a bunch of Ynwie/Petrucci stuff. Those guys are amazing nonetheless. Tell him to trying playing Origin or Nile without drop tuning, maybe?

Agreed
Also there is Trail Of Tears (Pt2 Deep In Heaven) where petrucci plays some very difficult shit

Oh, my apologies - he's the lead guitarist in Meshuggah. His solos on the "None" EP and the "Chaosphere" album are quite mesmerising.
Also try out Martyr - Dan Mongrain is a flawless guitarist.

I seriously doubt this guy could learn some of the solos of Buckethead's Monsters and Robots album in 10 minutes.
I also bet you a lot of money that I could prove he's not playing the solos exactly correct. Although that would be me being ridiculously picky. In any case, even playing them close enough is fucking good. Are you using a stop watch while he learns 'em?

Yeah, Meshuggah is not the hardest to get the fingers around, but the timing, phrase lengths and, perhaps, the picking patterns, will almost definitely catch you out. One of the most difficult Mesuggah parts has to the riff in Rational Gaze where that lead idea comes back before the riff that leads to the solo, with the spazzy ascending notes. I couldn't write down the riff or show you it, I can only hum along to it. Fortunately I've been listening to Mesh' for such a long time that all the songs and rhythms are devoted to my subconscious.
As for Thordendal's soloes, I have a couple in my tabs, which I'm fairly confident are correct. But they are crazy stuff. His live improvisations are amazing, especially the one he did for Future Breed Machine at Download '05, which can be found on the DVD that comes with the re-release of Nothing.
And PsyOpus is pretty crazy, particularly that White Light one. In the video, I don't think there's a single moment where Chris Arp doesn't tap, even while he's leaping off of stacks and drumkits and dancing around.
Spiral Architect are pretty good contenders too, and the odd times they use aren't cyclical like Meshuggah's. They have like phrases that cut-off and go on for a bit longer and already the riffs are quite fiddly. It's fairly perplexing stuff.
