got problems with a marshall, wanna get 5150
Heya guys its my first thread in here and its about the world famous 5150
(dont kill me for making another thread on it)
I am currently playing on a marshall advanced valvestate technology (head and cab)
I really like in flames and metalcore such as the first album of between the buried and me and prayer for cleansing, but mostly in flames.
I can only get a shitty sound out of that fuckin amp ( it farts or it kills your ears with too much highs)
i tried putting a boss equalizer ge-7 in the fx loop but it didnt do much to it. Before i buy a 5150 I or II
Is there a way to get a good swedish death metal /hardcore ssound out of that amp?
Secondo, I wanna buy a 5150 amp. wich cab should i go with to get the in flames leads and metalcore breakdowns. a 1960a or the 5150 cab or something else. Id also like to have a respectable clean channel on my amp.
So, should it be a 5150 or 5150 2 for the purchase of a new amp
THANKS!!!

5150 2 has better cleans, and better control of the channels. Slightly less gain, but you really wont notice it because theres a point where if you turn up the gain too much, it just gets shitty sounding. Oh, and the best cab for a 5150, is the 5150 cab with the custom sheffield speakers.

5150 into a beat up marshall 1960 cab = THE metalcore setup.
any higher end cab will do fine though.

To get an In Flames sound out of a 5150, just switch it on Can't go wrong with one of 'em.

difference being, the 5150 earned it's way into the scene by having kick ass tone. krank gaveaway endorsements and bought their way in.

Yeah a 5150 would be wayy better than a marshall solidstate for metalcore.

Jesus is it just me or does every Krank owner seem to be an obnoxious douche? I've met TWO here on the Canary Islands, 1 of which was interested in buying my cab off me. Most obnoxious Dime-crazed fucker I've ever met.

obnoxiousness (is that a word?) tends to be a result of arrogance, and stupidity, which are usually coupled. Arrogance from being able to afford the overpriced crap, and stupid for buying it over something way better... so yeah... its like the amp that parallels hottopic goths, they both think theyre the shit, and both think theyre super hardcore... but we all know better.
I used to have a link to the myspace of a fat kid... no joke... bc rich warlock --> krankenstein ontop of a marshall MG cab... and he was wearing a slipknot tshirt, and hottopic super baggy bondage pants... yeah... i'm not making this up I SWEAR.

would a mesa boogie dual rec be as good as a 5150 for a swedish metal / metalcore tone, cause in rackmount its really great to have it all in the same box

Iwould pick a 5150 over a Recto if all I was after was a swedish/metalcore tone. Hands down.

These people are mainly the ones who take mags like Guitar World seriously.
There's nothing wrong with reading of course, but I can't stand people who don't try out and think things for themselves in the first place and just go with whatever because 'so and so' plays it.
I'd go with a 5150 any day over a MESA... but I can say that because I've played both. What it's really about is the tone YOU like the best. Still, an upgrade to a 5150 from what you're playing now is an excellent step up. I'd say just try one out if you're able, because you never know if that MESA/whatever alternative is what you really think sounds better.

I've heard 5150's many times, but even still I'd think I prefer a Recto over it despite being way more expensive. Always putting EL34's in and a slight line boost to give even more tightness.
