ultimately the powerball's downfall of a so so crunch channel is whats making me consider selling. the cleans are way nice and the high gain can't be touched. but the crunch channel is too weak, i've experimented with my proco rat and maxon od808 over the clean and crunch channels. but this amp just wont sound good with boost pedals. considering a different ENGL mostly, but other bigshot amps are being considered.

the cleans on the vht are so so, if your guitar cleans up well(and my parkers do) then you can get pretty good cleans. the distortion is awesome. very tight sounding. i'd say it's about as tight as the powerball, but not as thick. the vht is very dry and dynamic, where are the powerball has a more compressed tone with more lows. totally different beasts, but good competition to each other if you're looking for a super responsive high gain amp.
i'm considering selling the vht because it's 2 channels mainly. can't really complain about the tones. i've been using my rat and od808 over the clean channel for my crunch sounds. but i'd like the amp to do it all on it's own and save space on my pedalboard. so i'm mostly looking to replace it with a pittbull UL or CLX for the 3rd channel.

XDX, why not sell your VHT, then buy a nice medium gain amp. Maybe a 2x12 if not a stack. I have a 95 custom shop Fender Prosonic. Does the medium gain thang perfect. If I could afford it right now, I would keep it for years.

what would you consider to be a better amp if im playing more of a sludge and tech grind style at the moment? im considering picking them both up possibly.

both would work fine, the powerball has more low end, but it's still very tightly voiced and you can't change that. the vht has more voicing buttons that loosen up the voicing. so for sludge/doomy tone i think the vht would pull it off a little better. but tight techy grind type stuff neither one would let you down.
