Bul-fucking-shit. I love old the stuff (Psyopus a hardcore band... very rare in my collection), and this is fucking excellent. Such a technical band, and although admittingly not the fore-runners of songwriting, I think their creativity and interesting use of technique and structure make for a great listen everytime.

they still sound like orthrelm.....but not as complex.
throw in DEPs<whoever sang on calculating infinity>vocals
the music is interesting tho, i just wish it wasnt so overshadowed by the vocals.
its cool, but it is by no means original in the slightest.

Thats the dumbest justification i've ever heard.
I'm not a hardcore fan. In fact I hate hardcore kids, 99% of hardcore, and i've never been to a hardcore show.
However I can say Psyopus and TDEP are extremely fucking good hardcore bands, regardless of personal taste.
Well, they're more of the 'technical hardcore' genre.
I'm not entirely content with my evaluation though, so i'll be more than happy for anyone to prove me wrong, probably in the direction of them being Tech Metal, meh, fucking whatever.

I thought Psyopus was a grindcore band.
I listened to one song by them before. I didn't like it back then. Sounded like a bunch of noise. But this was also when I thought CC sounded like a bunch of noise, so maybe I'll try these guys out again.

yep, they also predate psyopus and are far more technical. every orthrelm song is a clean execution, its done precisely as recorded live........thats their shtick. im not the biggest fan but something has to be said about thier abilities. not everyones thing, of course.
they basically took orthrelms avante garde approach and made a grindcore band out of it, its interesting, would be more interesting without the vocals or minimal vocals that didnt sound like every other hardcore/metalcore band.

Of course im not dismissing their abilities/originality/creativity whatever, its just that riffs like that, PLAYED 16 TIMES OVER, WITH NO VARIATION, get fucking boring as hell. You called them 'complex'. Maybe each riff is complex, yes, but song arrangement definantly isn't. Each riff is the same fucking range as the last, holy shit does it get samey. With abilities like that, they could write much better fucking music (imo). Its a shame, in a way. But i'm sure others love this kind of shit. |

the thing about orthrelm is, the way i interpret what they do, is moreso fusion, in a very avante garde,dissonant way. they arent really of the technical grindcore ethos......aggression,loud and heavy.
but, yeah. thier stuff doesnt really have "repeat listenability", its all bombast/shred.

I just listened to them and I'm getting kinda sick of all these bands doing the math thing. They are talented musicians and all, but it's getting old.
That and they encourage some of the gayest people to like extreme music. Those dame kids with their extensions and wacky eye make-up.

i say fuck 'em...i heard them on some internet metal tv show...hmmm metal injection? a while ago and I was like, "this isn't fucking metal. this is fucking technical metalcore." Just cuz it is technical doesn't mean it is good...cuz most of the time the best fucking riffs are simple. but no i've never liked them and this band is just trying to be overally technical and fast...but they are boring...necrophagist knows how to it...but not them...necrophagist only lacks in lyrical content...but that is understandable because i don't think muhammad is much of a lyricist and only writes lyrics so as to not be a instrumental band. so yeah... and more and yes yes more |
