my top for this year doesn't include a single death metal or/and black metal CD. weak year for both genres.

all good stuff, but not even close to make my top 10.
the only stuff i (really) liked this year (in terms of DM) was Lust of Decay, the new Suffocation and the new Arsis. the rest goes away with a "thank you, come again".

Well then what do you feel has been some of the best material released this year, at this point?

Oh I agree, I was just wondering what people could find that would be bad enough to make the whole album a dissapointment...

My mind comes to a total blank about death metal, but my favorite black metal related relases of the year have got to be Anaal Nathrakh - Eschaton, Amok - Necrospiritual Deathcore and Dodheimsgard - Supervillan Outcast.

I agree. There was nothing really spectacular this year.
As for gore/grindcore and doom, that's a different story!

Antaeus-Blood Libels
No De Principii Evangelikum (but then again, it is the summum, literally), but this album is beyond music.
Kriegsmaschine-Altered States of Divinity
Marduk-Blood Puke Salvation (okay, DVD, but heck)
As for the best déath metal albums:
Death metal sucks.

Borknagar-Orgin
Hammerfall-Threshold
Bishod of Hexen-The Nightmarish Compostions
I can't think of any albums that came out this year, of well.

Those two are great, but I wouldn't say they are the best of their genra.
Becasue both the new Blockheads and Noothgrush albums are really good too (and I don't even know if I'd call thos the best).

The new Cannibal Corpse is fucking AWESOME.
Since Emperor didn't put out an album this year, there weren't any good BM albums. Emperor > the combined greatness of every other BM band in history

I - Between Two Worlds
Lots of dissapointments this year. Agalloch and Enslaved both failed to deliver (both decent albums, but neither gets much spin time). The new Suffocation is pretty good, but feels a bit watered down (not enough riffs). The new Arsis just sucks. Wasn't overly impressed with the new Converge either, although to be fair I haven't listened to it enough. New Anata is OK, but I never get an urge to listen to it. I'm sure their are other albums I'm forgetting that I could bitch about, but that's enough anyway.

Anata - The Conductor's Departure
Fascinating and brilliant, and heavily influential on me.
Decapitated follows close behind.
I don't have many to choose from, much of this year for me has been exploring the past, and the near-recent I suppose.

Believe it or not, that album actually breaks my list of favorites. Suffice to say, however, I disagree with your sentiment. One thing I will say- anyone who hates that album because of Atilla's vox gargles Michael Jackson's diarrhea.

De Mysteriis is the epitome of everything I hate about black metal. And Marduk are a shitty band.
Jesus fuckin christ, this year ruled:
Napalm Death
Terrorizer
Suffocation
Amon Amarth
I
Spawn of Possession
Psycroptic(if not 05)?
Hate Eternal DVD.
Deicide.
As much as I love Decapitated, OH was meh.

Oh come ón!
Since 'the Rebirth' with Devo and Mortuus, Marduk is a different band. No fucken Obesitas-patients, and no fucken Legion nagging for 5 minutes between songs, accompanied by his slightly odd movements. Mortuus ís a great singer, the new album ís a good one (shit, listen to it) and live, Marduk just kicks everything to shit.
And 'DMDS' is 'annoying', yes.

Marduk had one good album, forgot the title but it came out in 04 I think and had cool slow songs, the rest they've done is absolutely uninspired gobshite like most black metal bands.
Oh yeah and the new Vader! Really liked that one except for the production, it sounds like it's blasting out of a crappy little portable beach radio to me.

2004? I think you might be refering to World Funeral, which was released in 03. It was decent, but for a black metal album, it was way too epic and well produced. It wasnt bad, but theyve had better stuff

That was on that metal documentary deal that VH1's been playing. I wish someone would've scrubbed Necrobutcher's middle-aged, drunken face into the Wacken mud. The guy took enough interest in his band to interview him and he treats him like that? That grouchy piece of shit probably beats up women.

on to the topic at hand:
1. Keep of Kalessin - Armada
2. Belphegor - Pestapokalypse IV
3. Spawn of Possession - Noctambulant
4. Suffocation
5. Merrimack - Of Entropy And Life Denial
6. Unmerciful - Unmercifully Beaten
7. Xasthur - Subliminal Genocide
8. Incantation - Primordial Domination
9. Gorgoroth - Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam
10. Thunderbolt - Apocalyptic Doom (if indeed it still gets released before the end of the year as it's supposed to; the two tracks I've heard should probably put it in my top 5)

Eh, forgot about Krisiun - Assassination
damn, the year's too long just to have a few on a list. If you add in all the other genres it would be ridiculous.
