Another Odd 5150 problem
I bought the amp used a few weeks ago, everything has been working fine until recently when the tone started getting weak and the sound would cut out for a few seconds when i turned the postgain up to 3 or louder. All the tubes inside are glowing and the sound doesn't cut out if the postgain is 2 or 2.5. It especially cuts out if i do thick rhythm parts on the E string or my Low B.

Eddie Van Halen is with drawing his spirit from the amp, no more rockin for you!
Seriously, its a tube amp, replace the preamp tubes, not a very odd problem.

Ah yes you are probably right, for some reason I just assumed he said pregain. Yea if its postgain, your power tubes are going bad. When it comes to power tubes going out its best to replace them right away, if they blow they could cause other more serious problems.

Like a transformer esprosion! or a cab fuckup! or an everything fuckup! esproded powertubes = DOOM... unless you have a sweet amp with powertube failure protection... mostly found on boutique stuff (like orange). In otherwords, your 5150 wont have it :P

My other guitarist had a problem similar to this on his 5150 II.
The lead channel would start up fine, but after a while of playing it would loose all gain. Our amp tech checked it out and said there was nothing wrong with any of the tubes, and gave it a clean bill of health.
Next practise the amp did it again after a short period of use, so back to the tech it went, and we told him to try it out for a while, and he finally found the problem, it was a resisitor that controls power to the tubes, and it was faulty. He replaced it and all was well again.
If you can't fix the problem after replacing the tubes, suggest this.
