recommended guitar tuner?
Searched and there's no threads on which tuner to buy. I need a tuner, what do you recommend for no more than like $40-$50 max.

does it matter whether its a pedal tuner or not? If not, any thing by korg should do you just fine.

i wouldnt reccommend a boss tu2... it doesnt have a true bypass... which means it has the potential to scrape out a bit of your tone even when its not engaged... and if you're a purist, or anal retentive like me, you probably wont like that. Planet waves just made a pedal tuner thats pretty similar to the boss tu2, but it has true bypass, looks prettier (imo), and is usually around 20$ cheaper.

I use a cheap little $15 Korg GA-30. It's not a pedal tuner, but it more than gets the job done.

alot of people wont hear the difference. and if that's the case, don't worry about it.
i however can usually tell the difference between a tuner being in my signal chain and one not being there. tuners in general are notorious for sucking tone. so i keep my tuners out of the signal chain by feeding it a split off dead end signal. for example an ernie ball passive volume has an input, a regular output, and a tuner/aux out specifically for this. so the tuner hears your guitar, but since it's out of the chain, you don't hear the tuner. otherwise i just unplug my guitar from my pedalboard and plug it into a rack tuner. it takes like 5 seconds longer.
i havent used the planet waves tuner, so i can't comment on how good of a tuner it actually is. nor on it's tone sucking issues(or lack there of). but i know the tu-2 is a good tuner and thats that.

I've had my Boss TU-2 for a few years now, and it's great. It's pretty rugged.. has taken some cosmetic hits, but it still works perfectly. Also, it works as a power supply for a chain of other pedals if you have them, so it's very nice to have.
