Are there any past/present bands in your state/area that are just awesome?
A few from North Carolina:
(not all of them are metal, but they all own, in my opinion)
Dark Autumn - black metal from Salisbury
Crimson Spectre - Anti-capitalist ghoul punk of the metal influence from Greensboro
Giant - Isis style non-crap hardcore from Greensboro
Control - Dark sludgey non-crap hardcore
Uwharria - Greensboro eco-thrash punk(featuring a member of oi polloi)
Weedeater - Southern Doom Metal from Wilmington
Sourvein - Southern Doom Metal from Cape Fear
Corrosion of Conformity - You probably know who they are.

Theres a lot of hardcore metal bands here that I don't care much for, like Glass Casket, Between the Buried and Me, Undying(although their lyrics are good), so I didn't list them :P

Vesperian Sorrow fucking suck, as do most of the Austin metal bands I've heard (By Any Means Necessary, Hatchetwork, and all the others I've seen). Go listen to Peyton Gin.

One band around here called "Embedded" listened to there cd was pretty good, sounded more main stream rock than anything.(Seether, Staind). My buddie went and saw them live and well ended up the guy had his vocals dubbed over a hell of alot and really sucked ass while singing.
We don't really have shit in the bible belt like one or two bands. Mostly coverbands of main stream music and all those bands will have the same set for the night. Or if their orginal they play country........

Amazing and no longer playing on the small local band club circuit (not to mention virtually defunct). However, every big show I've seen in the Austin area was attended by the one and only Ron Jarzombek.

i worked with the bass player from "by any means necessary." he was a nice dude, but i didn't care for his band.
Averse Sefira are by far the best thing to come outa Austin in a while. Masochism puts on a good show, but their cds aren't really worth listening to. This city needs more quality black metal.... |

Really, no American city's going to be a hub for good black metal. No Southern city's going to be a hub for good black metal. You'd have better luck trying to find a world-class blues guitarist in Cordoba. Just doesn't happen.

Dude I work with is in this band called "The Saw is Family." haha. Awesome shows, man. Last one was after this deathcore band had played and everyone had just been moshing. I was afraid there wouldn't be as much excitement for his band. No moshing (fine and dandy by me, them stupid jock fags), but still exciting.
