Ampeg vh140c

im looking to buy this amp from a friend of a friend. ive read that it is a great amp to get a dying fetus/suffocation sound from it which is awesome, but the reverb on the amp is broken(something about the wire) and im not a gear wiz so i was wondering exactly what the reverb does and if i can still get brutal distortion out of it without the reverb since im not sure if it is repairable. any help would be appreciated

unless you play black metal. i don't think you're gonna care about the reverb being broken.

reverb is an effect. it wont change the sound of the distortion.

buy it.. they sound great. you can always fix the reverb if you end up wanting it, but it's not necessary for a lot of metal.

And by the way ... Yes, its actually the 'perfect' amp to get the Suffocation/Dying Fetus tone since both artists actually used it. If you're getting that amp for a good price then do it and don't look back. Buy an external reverb unit if you must have reverb.

i LOVE that song. Okay, i'd say turn up the gain way high, maybe even dime it... get in some bass, alot of mids, and alot of highs. Having good pickups helps too... For that album, i think nergal used a stock gibson explorer plugged into a jcm 900 and/or a 2 channel dual rec incase you wanted an idea.
