FX loop as a booster?

Is it possible to use a tube driven FX loop as a booster? I'm thinking with send and receive volume knobs, that if you just put a single patch cable in the chain, and then say dime the send knob and lay off the receive knob, couldn't it act as another gain stage?

depends on the amp and what kind of fx loop.

i do this on my vht pittbull hundred cl for a nice clean boost.

my powerball however doesnt have a switchable fx loop. but i don't notice much difference with the level all the way up or all the way down.
