Mosh while playing?
Guys, do you mosh your head while playing bass? If you do, what style do you use? Do you have problems with loosing coordination or to miss sounds on the guitar or whatever?
Sounds pretty ridicolous, but I wanted to know how you do on that things ;D

Mosh your head? That would probably give you a head ache. I bang my head though.

Well its not that difficult, i do it playing guitar aswell as while playing bass. However, it is easier on bass if you pick fingerstyled. There is no advice to be given except starting with easier stuff and, of course, bang your head correctly to the rhythm, i tend to have the downbeat when my hair is at 6 o clock, if you know what i mean .

U mean Mosh as in for getting in the pit?
Cuz i do that while playing guitar and doing vocals with a headset mic.
But when there are venues without em, I would go during the parts w/o vocals and start shoving with my shoulder.
As far as windmills, DONT LOOK DOWN, ur balance will be fucked and there is a chance u will fall.
Just look straight at the crowd.

you seem to misunderstood me. I meant it's like people in poland say word mosh, but they mean headbanging by that. They say 'mosh' same as they would in english, but they mean something else :P

Well, Cannibal Corpse is pretty big in the Death Metal world...and Alex Webster does own, his technique and writing skills are incredible...anyways, heres another great video of him playing 'The Gallery of Suicide' (Great song, a work of fucking art)...some more fucking intense headbanging too check out him whipping his head around at 02:02, 02:33 and 04:02. That can't be good for the neck but who fucking cares, keep it brutal!

Windmilling while playing is easy, you just have to make sure you can...
1. Play the riff by feel (so without looking)
2. Keep balance windmilling that speed in the first place
3. keep your picking hand at the centre of your body, so that it stays still while your upper body moves.
4. The very bottom of the windmill must coincide with the beat, so you stay in time.

Haha, I am.
That comment made before was pure sarcasm... I dunno just got the urge. You're showing us Alex Webster, one of the biggest names in Death Metal bass, and sort of 'introducing' us to him like we've never heard of him.
It's a shame he doesn't know the difference between ' your ' and ' you're ' though.

Good to see that the American education system is doing it's part in educating their people properly eh man? lol
And I wasn't "introducing" Alex Webster as though he's new or anything...I just thought he would make a good example of a great bassist who can headbang like a chimp on meth while playing every note flawlessly. Sorry if I gave anybody the idea that I'm a n00b lol. I'm not, I was introduced to death metal at the age of 9

within the metal scene your stage presence is fully necessary and must be impressive eg headbanging/moshing/windmills/feet on foldback speakers even punching yourself or your instruments??! From what I've seen you should also perfect an evil glare, metal should be nasty not fun...
anyways who wants to go see a metal band and watch them all stand there like zombies even if they play the best damn set you've ever heard?? You headbang = they headbang... if you fall over just keep playing \m/
Anyone else have more interesting stage techniques to share?

i go to concerts to watch musicians, not kids hopping around. im not getting on anyone for feeling the music, and getting into it, but if someone is making evil faces and doing little kicks i tend to laugh hysterically in their general direction. lets leave the choreography to ashley simpson.

how his intonation is so strong on fretless while jumping around like that is impressive. let alone what he is actually playing. did they kick him out again? its a shame if they did. how many kick ass fretless players are you gonna find to play that technical of shit.

I don't understand the attraction of jumping into a pit if you're holding/playing an instrument. It would throw you massively off balance whilst playing, you'd fuck up ridiculously and you'd stand a fair chance of having your bass broken.
Waste of time really.

I'll headbang and whatnot. If I'm playing bass I'm way more likely to be headbanging than if I'm playing guitar because for some reason the position I'm in while playing fingerstyle makes it easier to not get thrown off balance for some reason.
