Using the FX loop send as a "line out"?

Essentially the FX loop send is like a "lineout" right? Would it be a wise idea to wire the FX loop send directly into a mixer or recorder of some type? I figure it would be just like hooking up a preamp to a mixer... Could it do any damage to the amphead/cab even if the cab is there to provide a load? How about using a "Y" cable splitter to split the signal from the FX loop send back into the Return and the other cable into a mixer or recorder?

This just occured to me, but I'm sure as fuck not gonna try it without knowing if it's safe or not.

If you put a line out, and no line in you will not get any sound, other than that yes it would work.

Well yeah I figured I won't be getting sounds from the cab just from whereever that lineout goes to. This won't do any damage to the poweramp right?
