Isis - In the Absence of Truth

Came out yesterday and I just picked it up and gave it a spin. Its a big album with a lot of the similar Isis characteristics. Its going to take some time to absorb the album, but so far I like it. Do I think it will top Panopticon? Probably not. PST mentioned to me that the drumming sounds a lot like Tool, and within a minute into the first track I thought "God damn, did they hire Danny?"

My experience with Isis is minimal, i only have Oceanic. Whats absence like in comparison?

I'd actually expect it to top Panopticon, though that's an early evaluation. There's a lot of stuff here to sift through, and based on the influences Aaron listed, he's chosen to some heady, life-altering material to root his world in. If it's really there, it shows some remarkably nuanced artistic understanding. So we'll see.

I have absolutely no idea why my brain consistently rejects this band. I have spun Oceanic and Panopticon half a dozen times each, and nothing seems to stick.

Still, I'll get this. Third time lucky...?

I didnt like it as much as Panopticon (that being up there in my top 5 albums ever) or Celestial. i thought it had alot of tool in it, not sure how. i guess the drumming as pst and darko suggests, but i just heard it and immediately thought of them. its a damn fine album but i dont think it has the impact that Panopticon or the past albums have had on me. stand out tracks? Dulcinea, 1000 Shards, Garden Of Light

overall i think it'll grow on me hugely and i'll probably grow to love it more than their past efforts. but for now it just doesnt have that impact...

I pre-ordered my copy on Sunday and it is yet to arrive. I'm sure that Isis will not fail to live up to the very high expectations placed on them, especially since Aaron Turner is a genius.

Not near as good as the new Isis, I bet.

Damn, this album adds some great new things to Isis while improving older ideas. Add the end of Dulcinea on the "ear gasm" list.
